Running GameEx on Vertical Display

For Reference, here is a response to an email I received on running GameEx on a vertical Arcade Monitor.

Hi,

I have played around with running GameEx on a vertical display. Its not so much a technical problem (although I still need to figure stuff out), but the fact that the design of GameEx, with the menu on the right and list on the left just is not suitable for Vertically rotated monitors on an 'Arcade' Monitor. Think about it this way, GameEx needs at least about 640 across to display everything, and the maximum an Arcade Monitor will show in a Vertical position on an AVGA is 288. It just wont work. I may add support for vertical displays at a resolution of 800 X 600 or above, but as you can figure out this will only look right on a PC monitor.

A lot of cabinets, allow you to rotate the monitor to both a vertical and horizontal position (with some effort), have you looked at doing that? GameEx has excellent support for Avga cards on a horizontal display.

Tom,

I am working with three friends and each of us are building our own Mame Arcade Cabinets. One of the friends introduced me to your GameEx software. The software is an excellent front end and very professionally done. I tested it on the PC while I was setting things up. The cabinet I am using came with an arcade monitor so I purchased an Arcade VGA. My problem is that my monitor is positioned vertically. Do you have any plans to update GameEx to work with a vertical arcade monitor? Is it even possible? If it is possible, and you do have plans, I would be one happy guy. Even if you said it is six months away, I would stick with the Mame32 frontend. Great work and thank you!
