I have been trying all night to figure out what is wrong with my setup and I am about ready to give up.

I have MAME and Daphne working fine, but only those 2 emulators work. Any other emulator I attempt to setup will not run.

And by will not run I mean according to the logs GameEx does not even attempt to launch the game.

I've attached my logile and the gameex.ini file. The emulator I am attempting to run is Stella. I have also tried Kat5200 with the same exact lack of launching.

The logs show me launching GameEx, navigating to the Atart 2600 list, and attempting to launch Adventure. After waiting until the "Launching Atari 2600" disappears and I see nothing, hear nothing, and don't even see it if I alt-tab I exit GameEx.

Yours is

Stella.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

Mine is

Stella.exe -video gl -gl_fsmax 1 -fullscreen 1 "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

Change it to above in the command line and it will be good to go

I originally had that as my command line, but I put it back.

Tried to run it after adding that back and nope, if you look at my log file you will see it never even attempts to launch Stella. I also tried it with kat5200 set up and it never tried to launch it either.

If I turn on debug mode for that emulator it never even creates the runitgame.bat file.

Delete the emulator from setup wizard start again just in case there is a setting somewhere messing you up. I have my roms in .bin form as I think Stella doesn't have zip support, so either go to advanced emulator settings and turn on 7z/rar/merge support, roms are real small so I didn't bother maybe try that. Also my 2 folders are set as default

Roms\Atari 2600\Roms

yours is

Roms\Atari 2600 is that correct for your setup?

and obviously double check your emulator folder. If it ain't running or trying to launch then a folder or file is in the wrong place.

Wiped it out twice and re-created it.

That is the correct roms folder as I have all my roms in a single folder structure based on system. None of the roms are ziped or 7z.

Would GameEx kick an error if it tried to run the emulator and it could not find it? The logs don't even show gameex tried to launch anything nor does any kind of runitgame.bat get created (even though the UI appears to attempt to launch it.

Hi ShankyMcStabber and Welcome to the GameEx Forums!

The weird part about this is that GameEx isn't doing anything (as you've noted). Even if your command line is completely wrong, and your rom path points to a directory full of Word documents, GameEx will (or should) still attempt to do something (even if it winds up exploding in spectacular fashion). At the very least it should generate a runitgame.bat.

This is sounding more and more like a Windows permissions issue to me. So two questions then:

Where do you have GameEx installed?

and

Have you tried running GameEx as administrator?

Also just to be sure, guy can run these outside of GameEx right?

I can run them outside of Gameex.

I actually have a fully functioning Hyperspin setup on the same system but have been getting a wee bit tired of a bunch of minor hyperlaunch issues, so I know the emulators will also launch from within Hyperspin.

Gameex is installed to D:\Gameex and my emulators are installed in D:\Emulators\<systemname>\<emulatorname>\

To make sure my Hyperspin setup is not adversely impacted I have a duplicate emulator tree located in D:\Hyperspin\Emulators\<systemname>\<emulatorname>\ (I have tried pointing GameEx at the emulators in both locations, same issues).

I have treid running Gameex as Administrator (with the Elevated Prompts off) and I have tried it without being Administrator.

I just now totally uninstalled Gameex, pulled every instance of Gameex out of the registry and file system, and reinstalled GameEx. I am now configuring an emulator to see if the problem was a corrupted install.

I came from a fully functioning hyperspin setup myself and probably had same annoyances, i can say it is easier starting from scratch with gameex and is probably a lot faster then trying to swap and change stuff, only thing i saved were the snaps. I allowed everything else to be redownloaded on the art side (Being the asset folder). (If you're lifetime emumovie this shouldn't be a problem?)

These are the settings of my setup

Then every time a new system is added all you need to do is go to emulator put all files in the corresponding emulator folder

For the roms setup wizard automatically creates a folder for instance for me F:\Roms\Atari 2600\Roms

I found this easier to manage and less "argo" changing folders for every emu and rom set is a pain. This is as automated as you can get a is pretty fool proof. You can get many systems done in no time

Okay, after blasting away everything GameEx related and reinstalling I can now get the emulators to run.

As for wiping out my all my Art/Media from Hyperspin, I'll think I pass on that one. I have done a lot of manual work gathering the video and artwork snaps that were missing from Emumovies.com and I would hate for it to go poof (yes, I have a lifetime membership).
