When should Keyboard DirectInput be used?

I am running my cab off an ipac mini, and I do play a lot of fighting games on the cabinet, so the keyboard direct throughput sounds like a great idea. What are the implications, and should I enable it? I do not use media center at all.

If you are talking about GameEx - If your running on an ipac then most likely DirectInput was automatically turned on and you are using it anyway. It is turned on automatically when redefining keys or setting the Ipac setting.

Emulators all treat input differently though, so it depends on the emulator. MAME by default these days uses RAW input and not DirectInput.
