hi

------------------------------------------------

MY SYSTEM

athlon 2800xp - 512 ddr 3200 memory -

sparkle nvidia geforce 4 ti4600 128mb

------------------------------------------------

im new to the forum and have waited out a little before posting

so i could get a good idea of how gameEX runs and it's usability.

im really impressed with gameEX and i think it is the gui i have always

wanted for my emulation/multimedia purposes in front of the tv

i just want to say a big thankyou to tom for his great work that puts

commercial products to shame.

my issue with gameEX is one that is well known and i have followed

the guide lines in fixing this problem , the problem being some

nvidia drivers that cause extreme slowdown within gameEX.

i have tryed much newer drivers and the problem is still apparent

and was wondering if there will be a fix for this anytime soon <?>

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: I have a good system, but GameEx runs terribly slow or freezes up

(I have an NVidia video card)?

A: NVidia unified drivers newer than 66.93 and older than 81.85 seem

to have serious bugs with DirectX 2D support. Get the latest NVidia

drivers or alternatively you can get 66.93 drivers here. 66.93 was

released November 2004.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i know that i could use the old nvidia drivers to fix the problem

but i dont want to for many obvious reasons that i wont go into

so for the time being i wont be able to use gameEX becase of this

and i do hope the issue gets fixed.

thanks for your time and to tom for

giving us the great GameEX

Hi Romstar, thanks for the kind words. Unfortunatly the problem lies entirely with NVidia. I wish I had the skill, knowldege and time to hack there drivers but I don't :) It seem they fixed the problem in newer drivers but only for there newer chipsets(cards).

Theres nothing I can do, the problem does not lie here but with Nvidia. Of course you do have the option of buying a new video card. They move on so fast so you could probably get something better than your existing one one for only a small price. Say something like an ATI X1300, or Nvidia 7300, or if you've got an AGP slot pick up an ATI 9600/9600 Pro cheap off ebay.

thanks for the info tom ,

ill settle for the older nvidia driver untill i get a new system, its a shame

older cards dont fully work with the newer drivers but i can see your point

and that modded drivers mabe of some use.

i might have a word with the guys over at (extremeoverclocking)

as they might be able to help but it all depends on what needs to

be done to the driver , something i dont know anything about.
