[RESOLVED] PinballX 1.87 crash after exit from VP Tables

Hey there!

I'm new to this whole PinballX community and first of want to thank all of you for your great work! It has made building my pincab quite an enjoyable experience :-)

I have one problem right now though: PinballX crashes back to desktop (without message) each time when i exit a table from visual pinball.

This only happens on my pincab-pc (Equipped with Windows XP 32Bit, C2D E4500@2,2GHz, 1GB Radeon HD4870, 2GB RAM).

I have atached a recent log file, but the documented error is always the same:

13:35:52.9 03.09.2014: Exit System Control Pressed
13:35:55.4 03.09.2014: Error. Exiting
13:35:55.4 03.09.2014: Error in the application.

13:35:55.4 03.09.2014: at PinballX.Main..ctor()
13:35:55.4 03.09.2014: Waiting for Online Thread

13:35:55.9 03.09.2014: Showing Taskbar
13:35:55.9 03.09.2014: Unhiding Mouse Cursor
13:35:55.9 03.09.2014: Bye
Thanks to anyone looking into it and trying to help!

There are currently issues on some XP systems which I am unable to reproduce here.

Unless I can get a system here with the issue so I can troubleshoot it the only other option is not to use windows XP if you are affected.

Hey thanks for your answer!

I have analyzed the problem some more and found/created a fix (that works for me at least).

The problem seems to be related to switching between the VP process and PinballX. I found if i ALT+TAB to another process right after pressing ESC (Exit) in VP, and only after a few seconds ALT+TAB back to PinballX, it does not crash.

So i wrote a small program that does just that and set it as exit-application for VP. So if i exit from a table, my program gets started and sets windows focus to explorer and after one second maximizes PinballX again. No more crashes in two days testing ;-)

I hope you will find a real fix one day though :)

cheers,

I have the same problem, running 1.87 on a Windows 7 -64 bit machine. It does not generate a log, it crashed, and results in a blackscreen. I can only do a hard reset, nothing works anymore, complete freeze.

It used to work, but I changed some settings under the joystick settings. After that I have this problem, and I cannot seem to fix it any more, re-installing the frontend does not seem to resolve the issue. I use a Xin Mo dual controller for the buttons. Using the keyboard instead of the joystick controller gives me the same problem, so adjusting the buttons might be unrelated.

Next I am going to delete all settings after uninstall. I have a lot of work into the machine settings, so I rather fix it :(

Thanks a lot for finding a fix for this. Its been an issue for a long time with Windows XP (The windows 7 issues is not related). I should be able to duplicate that in code.

Could you please extract the following to your pinball folder and let me know if it fixes the issue?

Hey there,

Sorry i have not responded earlier but i cannot test your fix anymore because i updated to win8.1 since then :-) I hope someone else on XP can test that new fix of yours...

As a note to other people still running a cab on XP: Windows 8.1 fixed a lot of problems right out of the box i had with VP / PinballX running on XP. My cab runs much smoother now as well (getting stable 60fps on nearly all Tables where it was ~30-45fps on XP). So I encourage everyone on XP to upgrade to 7 or 8.1 ;-)

Hey Tom, this worked for me! I was having exit issues with XP and the new version of Pinballx.

This was my post, and I found this thread later:

Thanks!
