Hey all,

So I recently made the jump from Hyperspin and have been enjoying the relative ease of setting up GameEx. The Steam integration was very convenient until I tried to figure out how to add video snaps. When I eventually tracked down a folder where GameEx keeps all of Steam's art and video content (C:\GameEx\MEDIA\STEAM) I realized that all of the games were listed as strange identification numbers instead of their actual names or the names of the exe files. For example, the snap for Dark Souls 2 is named 236430. Each game is identified by a number much like that.

I have several videos that I made myself when I worked on HyperSpin. I'd love to transfer them over, but I can't figure out which number string identifies which Steam game; so I cannot add the video snaps. Is there an easy way to figure out which number string matches which game? Am I going about this all wrong?

These are Steam's internal AppID, which is generally used for all the artwork, descriptions, and videos, which come directly from Valve. They are also used to identify the ahk scripts (if any) downloaded from GameEx.

I'm not sure if you can add your own artwork for Steam or not using the integrated method... Unless of course you're wiling to rename your artwork to match the Steam AppID.

Yes you can certainly add your own vids, but as Adultery mentioned you'll need to rename them to the relevant AppID. To easily find an apps id number, go to the Steam Store page for the game you need, and the AppID is the last number in the address bar. For example to get the ID for Crimzon Clover:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/285440

All media will need to be named 285440. You may also need to do this for any games that are behind the age verification screen as GameEx is unable to automatically download artwork for those games.

I'd like to mention for future reference that another easy way to find out the AppID of a Steam game is to look at your GameEx log.txt file. As it checks every Steam game, it displays the AppID as well.

Just be advised that sometimes updates, patches, and expansion packs cause Steam to change the AppID. ;)
