hello to all.

after so many years that I did not use more winrar I downloaded the latest version and with great astonishment I saw a new compression format RAR5.

I did some tests on img file is greater than 7zip.

my question is this GameEx supports the format rar5?

Short of Tom coming in I would assume thats a yes, I'm pretty sure he updated recently (at least I know he updated the rar tech since rar5 hit the streets). To be positive though, give it a go on a test rom and let us know. :)

hello to all.

I did a bit of testing as adultery had recommended

I used 13 ps1 files (img, iso cue, ccd) compressed each one in a separate file format rar5.

GameEx has unfortunately not recognized

however, the compression rate of the format rar5 is always less than 7zip.

13 files take up 3.36 GB of disk space and 3.49 gb in size 7zip format rar5.

So there's no advantage in compressing format rar5

So the Rar5 is worse than 7z? That is surprising considering this Rar5 is new. Then again 7z compression has never been challenged realistically. Thanks for testing and letting us know!

GameEx uses 7-zip for decompression so if its supported by 7-zip it will work but I doubt it is if it is new.

I doubt it can beat LZMA2 in 7zip by much (note LZMA2 is not default in 7-zip).
