MNMax21
I am not sure if this is already an option, but could maybe work as a feature request later on..... When I was going through my mame game files, I had quite a few duplicates and clones. I was originally going to use gameex as an assistant in my filtering, because it would show the rom name right before the game loaded. However, that little screen stayed there for about two seconds and then disappeared. I am wondering if there is a way to make that screen stay longer in settings or possibly a way to add a listing in the game menu for the file name being used? This also comes into play when I have a game that is not working. They don't always make sense and I again used to have tons of clones and dupes. Maybe this cannot even happen due to other reason I am thinking in my head.
DazzleHP
This would be one of them moments when RomCenter comes in handy! Generate an xml from your MAME exe (i believe you can do this in RomCenter itself, if not it's mame -listxml) then import to RomCenter. All you need to do then is look at the list and it will give you the filename, aswell as other usefull tidbits of info. There are alternate methods but getting familiar with RomCenter will give you skills that make your life so much easier when it comes to updating your sets

You can view that directly in your menus before starting the game, and it will stay up until you close it. Other than that, Dazzle is probably right for you; using a rom manager will clean things up nicely.
