I have been reading through the forums now for some time but have only found a post promising that the hard coding of this exit key combination would be removed allowing it to be disable, however I can find no information on where this key combination can be turned off. I have designated the Backspace key as my global exit, and that functions, but no changes I have made to GameEx will disable the simultaneous pressing of buttons 2 and 4 also triggering a emulator exit (very poorly chosen as these are commonly player 2 and player 4 start or coin). Sadly I do not have the option to rewire my input panel as there are no remaining keys for me to use. Also I do not have any key mapping software or controllers on the system; my inputs are seen by the computer as a standard USB keyboard (I am using the control board removed from a keyboard and wired into my control panel harness). I have GameEx version 13.21

Is this option only available on registered GameEx? If so I will need confirmation of this before spending money on a registration (this function is the last road block for me to choose GameEx as my frontend. If anyone can help confirm this, or point me to a thread I missed in the forum I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

I left this out earlier; this is in regards to MAME... my other emulators work correctly and do not respond to the 2 + 4 command when the advanced emulator settings exclude the back key.

Thanks again

You need to set that in Mame, not GameEX. Press {Tab} while in Mame. I think that you are looking for UI Cancel. Probably under General. Maybe not. :-)

Tempest, I appreciate the input, but unfortunately this is not a MAME issue; this is the global exit in GameEx. My UI Cancel in MAME has been mapped to backspace from the initial configuration of the system. I can turn off this Global Exit for all emulators except MAME because the Advanced Emulator config settings do not apply to MAME (as far as I can see).

We might be able to get you on a workaround on this - if things were a little clearer - ie i've read your posts a few times and i'm ashamed to admit i'm not quite grasping what is going on here. I'll also admit i'm not the shiniest tool in the box if you dig :P

So you mapped backspace as a global exit (this is my understanding) and it's working ok in all other emulators except MAME? This is where the problem occurs? Because your MAME version already has backspace assigned to another function? I just want to get some facts correct regarding your situation before i make any suggestions :)

If in the meantime you want to disable the Global Exit, launch Setup Wizard> Input Settings. Scroll down to Global Exit, next to Global Escape Key Combo, click the "browse" button and hit "Clear". Do the same for Joystick Exit. This for now should disable it entirely till we can get you sorted.

Hi Schupper. This might help clear the mud in my post.

The problem is the keyboard 2 and keyboard 4 global exit is hard coded and cannot be turned off for Mame (the advanced emulator settings don't apply to Mame); there is no user editable setting that disables 2+4 global exit for GameEx when it launches Mame. Give it a shot on your system and see what happens if you hit the 2 and 4 key (not on the num pad) at the same time. If your Mame session doesn't close I will be shocked, and then promptly beg you for your GameEx config files as I see no way to duplicate the situation on my system.

Mame works as it should, but GameEx always intercepts 2+4 as global exit for Mame.

Did that help? And let me know if your system doesn't do this... seriously; I am at my wits end :)

I also got a problem of global exit I had trouble to disable. It was not specific to Mame but I could not disable "Global escape Key combo". To fix that i had to edit the [mapping off] files (from "./Gameex/Config/Emulators/") that were associated to my emulators and set the field MapGamePadExit to False. I don't know if it is of any help for your issue.
