Hi all,

Finally got things up and running, just a few questions to comfirm that I can do what I think before I pay.

At the moment i'm just doing a jukebox for the other half - this is my cunning plan to get away with making a mame cab in the near future - she has a jukebox - i want a mame cab!

What I would like to confirm is, can I remove all the other menus and have gameex fire up straight into the jukebox and have no other menus apart from jukebox related ones. I had a quick look in the config files and it does seem that this is the case, however I got sick and tired of having to wait ages for the nag screen to go after every little change I made so hopefully someone can give me a straight yes or no on this one.

Likewise with the controls, I see the default buttons has no pause or seek for music, but they do have keyboard contols, presumably I can remap these?

Thanks

Did I ask dum questions or does no one know the answer? Just I see 36 hits and no replies :(

Now at 78+ views and no replies.. ok, firstly I know you can scan through video but not jukebox tracks as far as I'm aware. You can move to next track and prev track using joystick buttons as per documentation. If you've got a media center remote then it seems that you can scrub/seek through an audio file.

You can remap key/buttons to your hearts content. Be sure to read through the help icons on input settings page on the config panels.

And I hate to say it but if it's proving to be a pain trouble shooting with the nag screen do what I did and make the donation. I was much, much quicker in tweaking up Gamex on my system without it, and tbh, the software is well worth the investment. Specially if the other half is going to get a gain out of it as well.

Hope it was of some help.

My tuppence.

Thanks for the replies,

The reason I didnt pay is because I dont see the point in paying for something if Im not going to use it - hence the title of this topic. The nag screen almost put me off trialling it anyway, theres nag screens then theres nag screens.... Im sure these have put off many more people - Im pretty patient as a rule but came very close to uninstalling it.

I admit it is one of, if not the best front ends I have come accross yet, but if it isnt what I need then I'll need to look for an alternative before I pay.

The seek feature isnt too much of a problem, but I really would like it to fire up straight into the jukebox, is a menu editor release on the cards, if so do we have an approximate date, at the moment the jukebox is the important thing.

Thanks

The nag screen is just that, a nag screen. It's supposed to be annoying to encourage people to donate for the hard work Tom does in developing GameEx between his real life work that he needs to do to make money to pay the bills etc. There is no obligation to use GameEx, if you don't like the nag screen either donate and remove it or uninstall it.

Seek feature would be nice, I agree. Tom may add that in the future, worth putting in the feature request topic I believe.

Going straight into jukebox or any other area at startup has been requested a few times. I think it's on the cards, as with the menu editor. Who knows I may be the one who writes it, but I can't give a date because nothing is planned yet. I have some basic ideas, but I'm not feeling very motivated to start a whole new app just yet. Also I have a commerical project I'm trying to work on too, so it's a matter of finding time to devote to it.

Exactly as Headkaze says a nag screen is a nag screen, no more no less. I'd like you to use and get the most out of GameEx but your under no obligations. If you've been around yourll see feature requests are actively encouraged, there's been hundreds of them, and I've implemented far more than outstanding ones.

Unfortunatly although I see myself as a wizz with software, it still takes times. As I said everything gets considered. Sometimes people get a minor gripe about my priorities, but that's only I believe because I've set expectations at such a high level. That's life, people start expecting you to go beyond each time, and I get no extra payment for implementing things for users who have already paid.

In terms of time even at minimum wage, youd see in terms of other peoples time, way more than $19 has been spent on this topic.

No worries, but lets just look at things in realistic terms a little.

Above all else, this is supposed to be fun, for me, for Headkaze and everyone else here. If it stops being that I'll likely stop.

Hi,

I appreciate it is for fun, and I also realise how much work goes into it. The nag screen is of course just that, however my point was, IMO its a bit TOO naggy and almost put me off, and may well have already put others off, and whilst as you say, the odd $19 is hardly going to pay your time and effort, the extra long nag screen might lose some gameex users/supporters.

I hope I didnt come accross as one of those people that wants everything for nothing, if I did then I apologise, I have spent an absoulte fortune on the jukebox project, and whilst you may argue that another $19 wont make much difference - another $10 here, $30 there for "fully functional versions" soon adds up which was my point. I am pretty fluent in vb and whilst have zero knowledge of the multimedia side of things, I could, time permitting throw together a custom app, but I have neither the time or inclination to do so which is why I have been looking at commercial/freeware/other type apps.

I am still undecided as to what I am going to use, apart from the fact I am unable to customize the menus or boot right into the jukebox, I will say that gameex is the best front end I have seen and I am still in 2 minds whether to use it for the jukebox.

As far as customisable menus go, I may be wrong but I would have though it could be implemented pretty easily, of couse its not my software and as mentioned, there are already gripes about the developers priority.

Once again, I hope that I havnt come accross in the wrong way, I think its great that there is a product that is "designed by a user for the users" so to speak and I really do appreciate the work that has gone into the app and I hope that the developer(s) carry on making changes and adding some of the followers requests.

You mentioned in your first post that your actual intentions were to get a mame cab for yourself correct? If that truly is your future plans you wont be wasting the $19.00 that Tom requests. If it doesnt work out for your jukebox then that is all the more incentive to build the mame box since you spent the cash already.

The nag screen is longer than the usual nag screens, but I know for a fact that in the past I have used software for long periods of time if not indefinately because the nag screen, well baseically, wasnt to bad so I just lived with it. I see your point its a catch 22 situation, Tom may lose some potential customers because of it but he probably gets paid more for his time with the way he has it setup.

Good luck with your jukebox and hope to see your Mame cab here soon!
