Im up and running but when trying to exit a game i can't get it to go back to the wheel screen. it goes to the VP editor then I must manualy X out with the mouse. I've tried to do combos in the setup wizard but none of my buttons will do this. Any thoughts?

Yes it's set to admin the closest i got was assigning exit emulator to non used second flipper but the playfield goes blank. I then must control alt delete to go to task manager and it shows X not responding , i close the running game not X and then X goes back to wheel

I had the same problem, but unfortunately I can't remember how I solved this issue.

Try assigning the exit emulator button to the same button as exit in the VP settings. Double Check that the exit button is not assigned to another function too.

I also noticed a strange exit-behavior of VP when running in XP Combatibility mode. I simply turned it off - no compatibility mode needed for VP.

Which OS and VP version do you use?

I don't use compatibility mode on X and VP on my Win8.1 Machine.

Try switching it off. There is no reason running VP in compatibility mode when you are expecting no issues running it normal.

Also try assigning the VP exit button to the same button as exit emulator in X.

Please post your pinballX.ini and log.txt so we can help you easier.

That was the trick took Pinball X off compatibility mode and it exits to the wheel I will save this in my fixes folder for others in the future X works a hell of alot faster without compat mode go figure
