I am using gameex 5.87 win98se and mame games are working great. but i am struggling at setting up nes & snes. I am using Jnes and zsnes and they work fine by themselves but when i launch them using gameex the screen goes black and i can hear the game running in the background and the title screen flashes up for a split second then it exits right back to gameex. if i alt-tab i can see emulator running. Any ideas or suggestions. I have had mamewah setup with this same pc and same emulators and it launched fine,but gameex is so much a better frontend for what i need so i really want to get it working correctly.

Awesome Frontend and well worth the registration fee!! thanks everyone.

The only difference i see besides path names (obviously) is the -m command line parameter What does that accomplish?

I think this is a windows 98 specific issue, it handles launching windows programs a little differently then 2000 or XP. You need to add "START / Wait" to the beginning of the command line, to tell the launched emulator not to return to GameEx until its closed. I dont have time to explain how to use it right now as I only have limited access in a cafe, but hopefully headkaze or someone can help. If you type start /? at the command prompt it should say the options, but bear in mind if you have long paths with spaces ther'll need to be in quotes, and the start command enterprets quotes as the title for the command window.

At least this points you in the right direction.

Cheers.

Thanks for your quick response this will help immensely. this at least tells me im not doing something wrong on my end i will need to add that start/wait tonght and see how it goes. This is a relief! Thanks a bunch!

Thanks the Start /wait is working i can now launch the nes and snes emulators from gameex. next thing i gotta work on is getting rocknes to exit. if i hit escape it closes the current rom loaded but leaves open the emulator so i have to click file and exit with the mouse and then it returns to gameex.

Would the same -m work to disable the jnes or rocknes gui also? i am having success launching snes and nes emulators now, but exiting is something i am working on now. with rocknes when i hit exit it closes the rom but leaves the emualtor gui up and i have to hit file and exit.

Jnes launches but goes full screen and then flashes back to windowed mode, i have showdesktop = false, mapkeys = yes,and in jnes selected "open full screen when rom is loaded".

Jnes also seems to run very smooth, rocknes launches better ( no windowed) but it seems to stutter on some roms.

anybody have suggestions. Thanks All it has been a pleasure posting here. Oh and also again i must say Gameex rocks!!

Hi. I'm using jnes and have had no problems at all with it. I'm using build 0.5.3 for jnes and the latest GameEx Build 5.87. My gamex config for it is as follows.

[Emulator_4]

Enabled=True

StartPageName=Nintendo Games

TitleText=Nintendo

StartPageLogo=nes

RomFilter=*.zip

RomsInFolders=False

ROMPath=C:\JNES\Roms

SnapPath=C:\JNES\snaps

WorkingPath=C:\JNES

MapKeys=True

WaitBeforeKeys=

SendKeys=

ReplaceDash=True

ReplaceUnder=True

Capitals=True

RemoveBrackets=True

AlsoLaunch=

ShowDesktop=True

Debug=False

MapFile=

OLDatZip=

Command=jnes.exe [ROMPath]\[RomFile]

TitlePath=

BoxPath=

LaunchBefore=

LaunchAfter=

CartPath=

configFile=

I hope this helps.

Thats about exactly my config file on the PC i am having issues with, and on the PC that is working great. One is XP and the one having issues is win98 se. I will keep on searching for a solution. Rocknesx is working, it goes full screen but i just need to setup autohotkey so i can get the emulator to exit. if i hit esc. it unloads the rom but leaves the emualtor open.

Jnes is still launching full screen for a second then it goes windowed mode. I know i will find a solution sooner or later with either using rocknes or jnes. thanks for all the helpl guys!
