PinballX with Windows 8

Just something I wanted to share which is useful.

So on my living room PC when testing PinballX, videos load instantly but take a few seconds on the cab which I am sure you have all seen happening.

I couldn't understand why and thought the kit in the cab wasn't so good but it turned out it was actually running faster.

The cab was running windows 7 as we all tend to think windows 8 is crap for this stuff but the HTPC is running windows 8.

After a little googling I discovered it was fairly easy to boot into the desktop on windows 8 theses days. There are at least three ways to do this and they all work.

So I installed windows 8 on the cab along with Classic Shell and everything runs great. No delay with videos loading in the interface and VP and FP run fine.

I needed to hide the Classic Shell start button (now accessed with windows key) and set the taskbar not to show on all displays in order to make sure there is no trace of windows when running.

So basically for PinballX windows 8 is a better os over windows 7.

PS: This is with i7s and SSDs.

Actually windows 8 has got quite a few performance and other improvements under the hood that are not obvious. They just blew it with the user interface

PinballX is running great for me on my cab with Windows 8

I actually made the same observation - and not just performance increases on PinballX - but for majority of applications overall.

I just didnt want to mention that in fear of becoming a social outcast.

I actually quite enjoy Windows 8 - yeah - the interface takes some getting used to - but i find it an overall better OS.
