For some reason a few descriptions have disappeared from some, but not all, emulator sections. For example NES, Game Boy are blank within GameEx but the SNES section is still displaying game descriptions. Nothing I can think of has changed with my setup. Games are still in the same folders with No-Intro naming conventions. Games also run properly from withing GameEx so it makes me think that something has broken between updates. Has anybody else seen this or did something just break with my configuration?

Hi Dragon Punch

If I were to guess, I'm thinking this is related to the database changes occurring in GameEx 13.15. Specifically I would direct you towards Adultery's post seen here, as I believe he also had some issues with the database updates. If that's not it I would advise you to upload your GameEx config and log so we can perhaps get a better idea of what's happening. You know, that old drill. ;)

Ok, so I deleted the whole DATA\EMULATORS directory and reinstalled to make sure only the updated files were in there. I went into the SetupWizard to make sure my NES emulator was choosing the right database and it seems to be. (Database=[Console] Nintendo NES) Not sure what else I should be looking for so that's where I am now.

Yeah I'm still having problems too, lots of my descriptions are missing for some reason that were there previously.

In addition, lots of my roms say (USA) even though I'm using a map file and have text in brackets turned off.

Maybe the db reader is crashing on a field and leaving the rest of the games past the crash empty? Like for example my SNES games show descriptions down to about the letter C and then nothing.

If it was supposed to use the mdb files as backup it's not. I kinda feel like an error is happening and then it's just moving to the next emu. Idk.

I would have said something sooner, just thought it was something I should fully investigate first... So when I saw this I thought it might be related somehow.

I will check out the SNES DB tomorrow.

Quite a few of the DB's have be rebuilt to a certain extent when the dat's were updated, so there may be matching issues perhaps? I know for a fact that you may find less matches with some of the databases currently as these now contain a huge amount of games that are in-progress. I can release new databases containing all database data if this proves to be the issue - though this will also increase the chance of incorrect matches.

I am currently working on the SNES and Genesis databases and have just 90% completed PC Engine (omitting a few obscure Jap releases for now).

I will get back to you tomorrow and perhaps post a SNES db for testing.

I'm pretty sure the genesis one is doing the same in a different spot. I'll let you know where when I get back home.

It should still display all the other games but not with descriptions though?

Please try this DB.

This has ALL data regardless of it being verified or not. This will increase your hits, but.. not all hits will be correct and items like devs and pubs will not be matching our fairly strict conventions.

Let me know if this helps?

(remember to remove the sql version first - or rename it).

I'll try this as soon as I get home.

Just tried out the new GameEx exe and there were no changes for me. Unfortunately all the descriptions that were blank before are still blank now.

I believe Tom's hotfix was to address the info in brackets, pertaining to the recent database updates ie (USA ver.1.008989898) etc and will not make a difference to missing info in the databases themselves. I would wait a bit as GreatFlash and a few others are overhauling them :)

There was a bug in the new brackets formatting which is fixed in the attached although the missing data is down to the databases.
