PmG Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Can anyone tell me if there's a way to allow the list of games (MAME) to be scrolled by page instead of by line?Right now if I want to play Truxton for example it takes about 10 minutes to get there - I've used other front-ends which allowed the joystick to be pushed right/left for paging up and down, with up/down being used for line-by-line scrolling. If I push the joystick left/right in GameEx it just goes to the other icons which I never really use anyway.I've looked for a way of configuring this functionality but either it doesn't exist or it's too obscure for me to find, or I'm being dumb.. one of 'em.Can anyone help with this?Cheers.
DazzleHP Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Hi PmG and welcome!Go to Input Settings in setup wizard and scroll down to Joystick Input. Change Enable Custom Joystick Controls to Yes then set a button for "Paging". With whichever button you set held down, the list will scroll much faster. You can even jump to the next alphabetically by tapping it 1
celly Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Or even still, on your keyboard (if accessable) start typing out the name while in the game list. 1
PmG Posted June 21, 2013 Author Posted June 21, 2013 Ok that's great thanks guys, I'll use the custom joystick settings as I have it in a mini-cab so it's more convenient to not have a keyboard attached.Sounds so simple now don't know why I didn't find it
PmG Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 Erm hi again, maybe this is me being stupid but I can't get this paging thing to work at all.In the custom input text file it already had 3 assigned to paging, however holding button 3 while moving joystick up/down does nothing.I've tried assigning other button values but again to no effect - I presume it is the Shift1_Paging setting underneath [JOYSTICK] section.I notice in notepad when I press the buttons I get normal keyboard entries (i'm using an iPac) so I even tried using the scan codes for these instead (so for example I see that in scancodes the letter w=17, w is what button 4 produces for me). It's weird that such a simple function should be beyond me to configure but I guess it is.Any suggestions would be welcome.Cheers.
Tempest Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Use the setup wizard. 'Input Settings'1. Enable Alpha Paging > yes2. Enable Custom Keyboard Controls > yes'Keyboard Input'Paging > Click on the ... button and enter the key you want to useIt looks like you were trying to use the joystick input which defaults to '3'
PmG Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 I am using a joystick - it's in a mini-cabinet so I don't want to be using a keyboard.I had already set those options (Enable Custom Joystick Controls option as well) and still nothing. The idea is to hold a button while pushing the joystick up or down so that the list is scrolled by page rather than by line.I can't get this seemingly simple functionality to work for some reason - the setup is pretty standard.
Tom Speirs Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 It sounds like you are using a keyboard encoder (iPAC) which although is physically a joystick on your cab is really a keyboard as far as your PC and GameEx is concerned. Therefore you need to configure "Keyboard" controls not Game Pad/Joystick.
PmG Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 Yes you're right, I was being dumb as I kind of suspected.I configured the keyboard controls and now it works fine.Cheers
