stigzler
OK,Next Emulator, next headache!Went through GE emu installer - installed Mess for Atari 7800.Kept all default settings. Rom path's correct. Tried with and without 7z option enabled - no joy! Just goes black on launch then returns to GE.Still can't find clear, current setup guides for each emulator. As the default rarely works, would it be worth an experienced GE user setting up a separate topic with stickies for each system? Just a suggestion.Anyways - can anyone help??Thanks
KRC
I have no experience with MESS at all but I use ProSystem emulator for 7800 and it works like a dream and is super easy to set up.It would be best to upload your config/log etc...
hansolo77
I'm not 100% sure, but I think you need a system BIOS rom for the 7800. Have you tried to run the system outside of GameEx yet? Just launch MESS directly and go to the Atari 7800 section. If it doesn't work, then something is misconfigured in MESS.For my setup, I'm using MESS64.. here is my command line:Mess64.exe a7800 -cart "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" -joy -nowThe a7800 part tells mess that the ROM (game) is an Atari 7800 file. Without that bit, MESS won't know what to do and just sit there, or crash, or report unknown ROM format, or something like that.
celly
I knw the command line changed with the later versions of MESS. Im using an older version so my cmd line will be different. Which version of MESS are you running? Again, an emulator config would be nice to see.
stigzler
Thanks chaps, will revisit tomorrow when less bleary eyed. Using the Mess downloaded by GameEx! Think it's 0.145 (in the messnew.txt file)cheers
Tempest
The best thing for you to do is to learn to troubleshoot using the runitgame.bat method. It will save you a lot of headaches.
fRequEnCy
Or also use the most underused feature of all, "debug". Which pretty much has the same affect.
stigzler
Thanks folks. Took the path of least resistance: Installed ProSystem.GameEx default setup left it in small window, so for others setting this up, couple of mods to the default GameEx and ProSystem settings:GameEx:Command line -ProSystem.exe -Fullscreen 1 -MenuEnabled 0 "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"Also on Prosystem, has awful buzzing sound. Choose:Options>Sound>SampleRate>11025CheersNow onto Daphne >.<
stigzler
P.S. "debug" Frequency -where would I find that?
repetto74
Hi,I have exactly the same problem with Mess 0.148 (it is the GroovyUME built) and emulation of the Atari 7800. I have already configured successfully the Atari 2600 and 5200. Assuming that settings and logic for the Atari 7800 emu should be the same, I end up with a black screen and then back to GE.I ran the Lastgame batch and have the same issue. I have enclosed a print screen of the batch window.I am using the No Intro romset (roms are zipped and in the .a78 format). Thanks
hansolo77
It doesn't like your rom. Try unzipping it first.
repetto74
I may remember having already tried to run a rom unzipped but same result.Maybe I will try with another romset.
repetto74
Ok solved now.I tried a Goodset for the 7800 and now it is working. Do not know why the No Intro set is giving troubles.... Probably has to do with the headers of that romset. Also watch your wording of how roms are obtained.
hansolo77
Could be. I have a No-Intro set for most things, but I looked and sure enough I have a Good set for 7800. Glad you got it working.
