Need help with DEMUL and maps...

So I discovered yesterday that I already had everything I needed to play some games that were either NAOMI or Atomiswave, except for the emulator. I downloaded DEMUL and installed it. Everything it's compatible with playing plays great. However setting it up in GameEx is a bit of chore. I think the problem I have is that there's not a proper map file established for these systems. There is only 1 map file available to GameEx, and that's for the emulator itself. But the emulator is capable of running Dreamcast, NAOMI, NAOMI2, Atomiswave, and Model 3 (although not very good). When you setup GameEx using the built in configs, it tells the emulator to run a specific BIOS and then ROM upon launching. But it doesn't work. Instead, it seams, it loads up the emulator for the BIOS and then requires input from the user to select the game. I think this is because GameEx uses the same map file for all these systems. So when a game is chosen, it doesn't really know what BIOS it's supposed to use. It looks like we need a map file for each BIOS.

Does that make sense at all?

We need a map file for NAOMI, and a separate one for Atomiswave. Not just a DEMUL map. That way you can send the appropriate BIOS command to the emulator.

I have no experience in this and have no idea how to go about building a map or setting it up, so I really need outside assistance on this.

LOL!! Holy crap! I just went through and figured out how to make map files, and manually typed out every single game and rom name for Atomiswave. Now you post that! hehe Oh well. Thanks for helping me find that though. I was fearing the NAOMI part. :)

Yeah I never really spent much time in understand map files. But I figured the problem I was having was directly related to the fact that the default config in GameEx used a generic DEMUL map file that listed games from all different machine types. But the command line inserted a specific BIOS and the default map wouldn't be of any use there.

I actually got to get going to work, but I think I solved 2 of my problems. I fixed the map for Atomiswave so now it correctly lists just the games that are of that system. Another thing I fixed was that the default config in GameEx is setup to use 7-Zip/GoodMerge and it was unzipping the roms before launching. That also caused DEMUL to prompt for the game since it didn't know the file GameEx was sending it.

I also have an app tool that I created which is how I submit the ones that are on my thread. I don't have it for release but if am available for requests. It only takes me seconds to generate one. Don't ever do them by hand!

Yeah it took me like 30 minutes to type it out. I thought you had a support thread somewhere with all those maps though. I just forgot about it when I needed it most heh. Thanks for doing that though. It's got me a little closer to nirvana now. :)
