Just bought GameEx and best out there by far!! Finally got a few emulators to work in GameEx but can't figure out how to quit an emulator besides to open up my cab and hit esc on keyboard and would be nice to have a button to hit for all of them on my control panel. Probably an easy fix but couldn't find anything in forums for help on this. Thanks

How about using an Advanced Config, with this you can assign a certain key combo to exit any emulator within GameEx.

Advanced Config is located in your GameEx directory on your HDD, once you have one setup (which isnt that difficult, just make sure you save it), go into Setup Wizard and choose the emulator you want to configure and Advanced Config option is located in the Advanced Emulator settings, there should be your Advanced Config you did.

I've attached a snap of where it is.

In terms of then using this with your cab maybe someone else could have some input on the matter (I'm not a cab user)

There is also an easier "global" method by using the emulator escape combo under input settings in the Setup Wizard. This "global" combo applies to everything. It can be a single key, or combination pressed at the same time.

I would say yes that Tom's method is easier but for some unfortunate reason the Global Method wouldn't work for me, to be honest though I haven't tried to use Global Exit since it wouldn't work for me the first time I used it. Maybe it's time to test it out again. :)

I think maybe it had something to do with the way my 360 pad / JoyToKey was assigned.

I've had a little trouble with the advanced config in the past versions and never really tried the global exit. When setting up the cab, I wanted to use a single button to exit any game, so I was referred to AutoHotKey by a member here (Big thanks to him! :) )

What I did was I created a script that mapped the esc key. Then I had gameex launch this script when the game launches.

I would suggest - first go through all the emulators you have individually, go through it's settings, and see if you you can customize which key to use to close the game. On the emulators that won't allow you to customize this, use autohotkey and have GameEx launch this script when it launches the emulator -> game.

Hope this helps!! :)

I think if the global exit had issues in the past these have been resolved now. Its also not that old a featuree. You also cant set a keyboard exit key or combo with an advanced config only joystick exit. There is also a "Global" gamepad exit. Of course many people have some other setups going on with AutoHotKey and JoyToKey and Ive only tested with a vanilla setup here.

Hi tatersalad and welcome to the GameEx forums!

As Tom pointed out the native Global Exit functionality will probably be the easiest way to accomplish your goal. Check out the Input Settings screen in the Setup Wizard to find that setting. If that doesn't work for you, please report back and post a copy of your GameEx.ini and a copy of your GameEx log after attempting to execute the Global Exit functionality (here's instructions on how to do that).

Hi chadisGr8

Sorry that your issue seems to have been neglected. I've responded to your original report in the originating thread. Thanks man!

For both of you guys, I'm hoping that Global Exit will be just the ticket (although I believe your individual issues are distinctly different). If Global Exit is giving you headaches it may still be worthwhile exploring some alternate key mapping software such as Xpadder, Pinnacle Profiler, Joy2Key, etc. (in order of my own preference). We'll try to get you up and running using the available tools, but these alternatives are worth bearing in mind.

Thanks guys

Tried the global and didn't work. Set the buttons but did nothing when trying to use them in gameex. However I tried 25ft Man-Eater's setup and worked. I set the key escape to one button and another button to return "Enter" for any error messages that occurred also and works like a charm and saving on the hinges on my cab lol. Going to try and setup the volume buttons now and see if I can get to work. Thanks everybody for the help. I'm sure I will have a few more questions soon :-)

I tested the global "keyboard" exit and I could not find any issues with it. You do need to hold the keys down together for a few seconds but otherwise it works fine. Note: You do need the map back setting set for the emulator for it to work. On the setup I tested on the global exit did not work and that was why because I had not set it. Once I set map back it works as expected.
