Video for mame causes front end to go blank

sorry if this is a duplicate post but when i have movies active for the mame screen shots, and i highlight a game with a video for it, the front end minimizes or goes to a black screen where i can hear the video playing.

can anyone help, i have 900 mame videos i would like to use but no way to use them .

BTW what a kickass front end, to bad i cant use it in my vert machine too .

i've something similar. i don't have tried any mame videos until now, but i've tried the \media\videos feature , there i have nearly the same fault like you have. if i start a video, it appears very short(about 1/2 sec) and then the screen is going black, each time if i try to control the movie, like "pause" or "forward" or "rewind" i'll see the movie again for about half a sec. then screen is black again. movies in normal windows system with media player are playing correctly. i think there must be a problem with an overlay of gameex maybe handeld other by our systems or graphiccards. also tried to upgrade to newest drivers, nothing works better. i don't have an idea anymore.

Sorry I should have said, it's not resolved. I just gave up and removed the videos. I thought I was doing something wrong, but sounds more like a bug to me now.

The official DivX install does this. Are you using it? If so uninistall and try ffdshow.

I'm pretty sure I am using ffdshow and not the official DivX, but I will double check.

divx uninstalled ---> ffdshow installed ---> same problem.

i don't think that the codec is the problem, bacause in media player it is working fine.

Other videos are working fine for me, so I think its something to do with those particular videos. Ill dowload them and do some testing.

I'm downloading the torrent now. Mario.avi downloaded already and I tested GameEx with that one game and avi, and it seems to work fine for me, so don't know what's going on with you guys. Do ALL videos not work for you?

I know there was an issue with the DivX official decoder switching window focus, as it comes with some extra bloat.

I am using FFDSHOW daily build Nov 25 2005.

I noticed this topic talks about two completly seperate issues by the way, GameEx playing videos and MAME snap videos, they both work completly differently and are not related at all.

i can only report that gamex playing videos in media menu is not working for me. if it helps to know, the gameex startup video is working correctly.

My issue is solely with the snap avi playback... I am using the mame_videos_shrunk torrent if that's any help.

Tom: if you can give me a step by step of what I should do to test this then I will. I know how to check what codecs I'm using, so just tell me what I should do to fully test this and I'll see if we can figure this one out.

Okay I can confirm that I had the official XVid/DivX codecs installed... I've now installed ffdshow latest build..

I'll let you know if it works...

BTW I have been using an old version... didn't know there were daily builds.. for those of you that don't know, try the following link for the latest build

EDIT: yep, that was it, just uninstall divx/xvid codecs from add/remove software then install the latest ffdshow.

EDIT2: The only issue I seem to be having now is that sometimes videos & snaps will take up for 5 to 10 seconds to show. I highlight them and then there is nothing.. I wait about 5 to 10 seconds and either the snap or video will show. Others will show straight away. Strange.

EDIT3: Can I just say this, it's amazing how I can have my Soul Calibur theme running with FMV in the background and have video snaps at the same time. Really AMAZING stuff Tom, using DirectDraw this is amazing stuff!!! Kudos to you my friend! GameEx is truely an awesome piece of software!

Hey Tom,I'm starting to put the computer together for my 2nd cab(for a friend).I've been using the divx codec on my first without any problems but was going to use the fddshow codec on the 2nd as it seems you prefer that one.When I went to download the last official version was dated June 2002 and an alpha version dated Oct 2004.Which one would you recommend.Thanks.
