...how to make my theme use a specific font that's not installed on the machine? There's a way now, right?

I don't think there is a way at the moment. This will be fixed in a future release.

Aww cheddar. I thought I saw this in an earlier changelog.

I don't really need to worry about the font being loaded into memory, I'll just install it on my cabinet.

Actually this was done a while back. You just need to include the font in themes folder somewhere.

So the name doesn't matter and there's no need to point to it in the theme.ini then?

You need to do both those things it just does not need to be installed. FileName may not matter, I think it looks at the internal font name, and it does not matter where you put it.
