this is an update to my last post. once again, my MAME games are fine, but i can't get NES or SNES games to list out. the paths are correct and i'm running v. 5.71 (downloaded this morning). what else could it be that i'm missing? also, do most of you keep your games zipped or do you extract into their individual folders? :(

Either, But you have to tell the gameex config which way you are doing it. First you need to set the correct path in the config:

Emu2 rom path = C:\zsnesw\roms (or whatever your path is)

Second you need to tell the config if each rom is in its own folder or not, mine are not so I set it like this:

Emu2 roms in folders? = No

Third you need to tell it whether your roms are zipped or not in the filter heading:

Emu2 rom filter = *.zip (or *.bin or*.vpt, or whatever the file extension may be)

If you don't set the rom filter correctly then gameex won't be able to see your games.

Last but not least you need to tell Gameex the working path of the emulator's .exe

emu2 working path = C:\zsnesw

These are just the basic settings, to get you Emulator working, the rest you can play with once you get the emu up and running

I hope this helps you out.

unfortunately, that didn't do it. my working path is correct, my path to my roms are correct (once or twice it was incorrect and GameEx wouldn't start) folder settings are correct... everything is right. i've got a lot of roms in the appropriate directories. this is really stumping me. is there anyone out there that had a similar problem that you had to use some different means to fix it? the standard solutions just aren't making it happen. thanks for all of your help!

p.s. - is it possible that i'm using the wrong emulators? could this keep my games from showing up? and what emulators do you guys use for NES and SNES? links?

Try putting a semicolon after the filter.

*.nes;

even if that is the only filter you are using.

If you also want to see .zip files, then put *.nes;*.zip; - with no spaces.

Hope this works!

Sorry that didn't help, It really sounds like a path problem though. As for which emus to use, really almost any emu that you like will be playable through gameex. Some good ones to try are Zsnes for Super Nintendo, and I prefer Jnes for Nintendo, but a lot of people like fceultra for nintendo. Just do a search on any good search engine and you should be able to find those pretty easily.

well, i figured it out. it doesn't make sense to me, but i zipped all the games (individually, not all together) and set the filter for *.zip and it worked fine. it wouldn't work when they were in their individual folders and the filters set accordingly. does that seem weird? ;)

nope. Just stick with them in .zip format and you'll be ok. It's alot cleaner and more organized that way anyway, and alot easier on your filters just to have them set at *.zip, rather than 40 different extensions. I had the same problem too with SNES. i cant remember off the top of my head what the final fix was, but this is how everything looks now for me.

I had the same problem, no ROMS listed for SNES and N64. The default GameEx import setup creates the ROM filter incorrectly. I added a ';' to the end of the default '*.zip' and it listed the ROMS correctly. You can also just delete the filter and it works.

Just another hint.... if you're using zip files, and goodmerge, they won't show up in your lists. GameEx is programmed to only look for 7z files when you use goodmerge. If you sets aren't in 7zip format, but are zipped, you can "trick" GameEx into thinking they're 7z's by simply renaming them all to 7z. The best way is to go to a command prompt, browse to the directory, and type:

rename *.zip *.7z

Here's another quickie... any artwork also works in the same way. It seems that for Cartridge and Box artwork, the required format is JPG and for Screenshots and Title Shots, the required format is PNG. So if they're not in this format, just rename them to PNG or JPG as needed, and then GameEx will be able to find and display them.
