I'm having a little problem when I quit emulators and return to GameEX. I hit esc to quit the emulator, emulator quits and it goes to desktop for five seconds, and then GameEX starts up again, but the screen is completely messed up. Then a little later GameEX quits to the logfile and I get the "20 exceptions in a row" error. Anyone else had the same problems?

I continue to get random "20 consecutive exceptions in a row" error messages but I don't see a messed up GameEX screen prior to the crash. My error messages occur without warning and I have yet to determine exactly what causes it. It's just a nuisance I've learned to live with at this point. Your problem sound much worse though. It's got me stumped!

Oh, it's not that big of a deal. When it quits out I can get back to Sage with just my remote so I don't even need to get off the couch to fix things. I'm playing around with my settings to see if I can't just change some graphical options in GameEX or my emulators to fix things. I'll post if I figure something out.

Evilpenguin,

No idea sorry. Your message seems to hint this is with lots of emulators. Are you sure its not with one (or two) in particular?

Jeff, oh well I thought we conquered that one.

Did you try the sleep setting as I suggested?

Posted

Yeah, it's pretty much every emulator. VirtualNES, VirtualBoy Advance, and Gens all do the same thing. I've only tried running them in fullscreen up until now. Tommorow i'll mess with the emulator configs what I can find.

I've played with various sleep settings and have not found anything that's worked yet. Right now I have it set for 3 MS and it hasn't crashed in a few days. I'll let you know if it happens again.

Do you think this might be something to do with the way you are launching GameEx from Sage perhaps?

Right on the money. I don't think GameEX likes that Sage is running in fullscreen mode behind it. I should be able to handle this from the Sage side, maybe minimize on launch or something.

Ok, I tried a few things.

1- I tried leaving sage in fullscreen mode and making a call to show desktop before I launched GameEX and the problem remained.

2- I set sage to minimize to taskbar on sleep and apparently it liked that.

I can live with solution two, except I would really like a clean way to relaunch sage after GameEX exits. Is there anyway to get GameEX to run a generic cmd command when it shuts down? That way I could set up a batch file to wake Sage up when GameEX quits.

There is another way to do this, and that is create a batch file to launch gameex and then on exit launch Sage. Something like this.

Create c:\runit.bat

-----------------------

C:

CD "\Program files\GameEx"

GameEx.exe

C:

CD "\Program files\Sage"

sage.exe

----------------------

Tell sage to launch this batch file instead of GameEx.exe

You might need to play around a little.

Hi Tom,

I'm building a MAME system and would like to use your GAMEEX front end tool because of its beautiful display. For the most part, everything running great. However, I'm getting the same error message and crash as evilpenquin. I don't run any SAGE program at all. Just straight from window XP. I'm trying to launch both MAME and GAMEEX with 1024x768 settings.

The crashes happened quite often and it has becoming kinda annoying when I was trying to show off the system to my cousins/friends this past weekend (just had it working last week). Happen about 3rd or 4th time I launch or quit any game with ESC key.

Please help me out. Sorry I have to email you since I can't seem to post/reply to any message even though I've created an account "hieule91" and logged it.

Thx

Hieu

Can you try using the latest version 3.47. If that does not work, just use the default theme and not the video one. I think it may be the newly implemented background video feature. Although it would be useful to me to know if I fixed this in version 3.47.

There is a link to 3.47 on the forum. It IS NOT a BETA version.

Please let us know your results.

Hi Tom,

firstly thanks for such a great product, love the features.

I too am getting the same problem, I have the latest version 3.48 but as with the last two versions I still get the 20 consecutive expections error.

I am only running mame, and am using the default layout.

Can you please replace GameEx.exe with the one in the attachment. Then post the log. You may need to zip it as it will be big.

This is a debug version of 3.48 that will run slow, but should hopefully log enough info to tell me where its going wrong.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,

here is a logfile with the crash, whilst this time the program crashed while I was viewing a cabinet picture, on previous occasions the crash has occurred straight after exiting a game.
