I've configured MAME on my HTPC to exit when I press a certain combination of buttons. If I leave GameEx running, MAME eventually runs random games as a screensaver, as I set GameEx to do.

Although this is exactly what I wanted, but for some reason, it doesnt exit the game properly, and eventually, so many copies of MAME are running in the background, GameEx crashes, and the system is out of memory.

How can I avoid this, and still have my custom button combo to exit MAME? I like the fact tht as soon as I run GameEx, I have full access to every game in MAME, from just my wireless PS2 Dual Shock controller.

Hi,

This can probably be resolved to switching to a recent oficial MAME build.

I dont think the custom combo is causing this.

This has been reported before with an old version of MAME32.

Latest is 0.94 I think. I suspect your running a much older or different version to that.

Some web sites are out of date, so although you may think you have a new version you probably don't.

Jesus, uh, I dont want to insult you or anything........even though I think you've unknowingly insulted me.

Oh, Screw it. Whatever dude, I'm sure it isnt intentional.

The fact I'm using a custom build of MAME doesnt mean anything, and it was up to date. I tried the default MAME build, and it STILL happens. I Do think its the custom combo of buttons, since the "exit MAME" command isnt being recognized, since it was changed.

There must be some alternate way to kill MAME. Maybe if GameEX killed the MAME process directly.

I'll look into this and work with you on this a bit more when I have some time (travelling a lot at the moment), but I just wanted to say sorry if I insulted you, and you are correct, it deffinitly was not intentional.

I understand where your coming from now but am still not sure what's going on.

I did however need to point out you should use a new official supported build. I still dont know how that insulted you, but it obviously got your back up.

GameEx is already set to close the MAME process when it detects most keys but Excluding escape.

It also checks for MAME to exit and just returns to GameEx if it thinks that has happened.

I've made the killing of the process a bit more aggresive with the next release, that might help I dont know.

Other than that, unless your using some unnoficial build, a dos version, or ADVMAME I dont have any ideas at the moment.

What is your KEY Combo set to do? It should be mapped to 'Escape'. Are you mapping to ALT-F4 or something else?

Hi Tom,

It seems that when GameEx goes into Attract Mode each game creates a new DOS window. They never terminate, so the PC eventually runs out of virtual memory and a Windows warning pops up. Is there some setting I need to set to avoid this, or is there some change that needs to be made to the runitgame.bat file? I love the screen saver (attract mode) but I'll have to disable it until the issue has been resolved.

I'm currently downloading the "mame_videos_shrunk" that you say is very nice in GameEx. It also looks nice on the video you recently posted of your bachelor pad. Where is that setup once I get the complete download? Only 35 hours to go ;>

Thanks,

Reuben

I set MAME Plus! to exit with a combination of button presses (specifically, select + start) on my wireless PS2 Pad, connected via USB.

EDIT: Looks like v3.48 fixed the issue.
