So I started adding the PS Final Fantasy games to my machine. I knoticed that each disk has its own cue file. So I know that when I put the games into GameEx each disk will show up on the menu.

Now I was wondering if there was a way to make those games only have 1 entry on the list but still can load the other disks when they are needed.

I really dont want to clutter my Playstation menu with 11 Final Fantasy entries when there are only 3 games.

Can this be done (and keep the entire game playable), or am I just SOL?

Currently there's no way to avoid that short of doing it manually when you move to next disc.

There is something of a workaround for this (although I hesitate to call it a workaround, since it works exactly as intended). The merge sets feature works like a champ for displaying multi-disc sets.

So for instance, let's say that I have Final Fantasy VII. In the Setup Wizard I would set Merge Sets to Yes on the Advanced Emulator Setup screen. So long as my Disc Images follow a standard naming convention (I highly recommend Redump), Final Fantasy VII will only appear once in my Game List. When I click on Final Fantasy VII all of the individual discs in that set will appear on the game screen.

Really I think this is preferable to only having one exclusive all encompassing entry for Final Fantasy VII in your game list. What happens when you finish playing through Disc 1? You would either need to change your config so that the single entry in your Game List now points at Disc 2, or as Adultery suggests you would now need to switch discs every time you start the game from that point forward.

The above suggestion may not be a perfect fit for your use-case, but I've found it to be pretty satisfactory. :)

I never thought about merge sets. Does it work like 7zip? I mean like one entry in the list and all discs on the game screen?

That sounds like a winner to me!

To be honest I usually rock a MAP file for my games, but that's a big one for my PSX stuff. My file naming is not anywhere near any standard format though (its a small collection of favorites), might require some work getting them sorted.

I renamed all my roms with multiple discs and I just have the Rom filter show bin files for each disc and use different snaps for each disc number and the artwork is matched to the bin file.

Ie. Final Fantasy VII (Disc 1), Final Fantasy IX (Disc 4), Resident Evil 2 (Leon)

Even though it shows alot of entries from the Final Fantasy series, thats the way I like it. :)

Well... well... well... you learn something new every day. Multidiscs games having separate entries is something that has been niggling me for years but never been bothered trying to solve it. I never knew that it was as simple as turning on Merge Sets, thanks nullPointer
