Strange problem with trackball

Just got my new slikstik classic control panel and everything is working great with GameEx except the trackball. While using the trackball as a mouse works well, I've found that when I play centipede I get some jerkiness at the end of any movement. Sort of like the cursor just jumps around a little before it stops. It makes it impossible to play.

This doesn't happen if I just start the game in mame32. It's perfectly smooth there, so I know it's something to do with GameEX somehow interacting with mame.

Any ideas?
