GameEx game fcategories not working, help please

Hello everyone!

I just got GameEx a couple of weeks ago and I'm trying to use it with some MAME ROMs.

I want to be able to filter out casino and majhong games, but allow adult games; so my settings look like this:

No adult games: Gimme the porn

No Mahjong games: No Mahjong games

No casino games: No casino games

I have the correct paths for catver.ini and mameinfo.dat and I have updated my game list. However the following problems occurs:

1- The "- NO GAMES FOUND -" label appears on the "By category" option.

2- Mahjong and casino games keep showing in the "All MAME games" and "Mame original games" options.

3- In the MAME Adult Games option just the label "- NO GAMES FOUND -" appears (but they are available via "All MAME games".

So I guess my problem is categories are not working. Can you help me to solve this?

Hi orlac,

Would you mind posting your GameEx.log (and possibly your GameEx.ini)? It definitely sounds like something strange is happening here, but your log and your GameEx config (GameEx.ini) will likely provide the most efficient means of troubleshooting this issue.

Please refer here if you're unsure of how to retrieve the above information.

Well a couple things stand out at me. Your log contains this:

10:26:59.0 30/06/2012: Catver.ini Not Found

10:26:59.0 30/06/2012: nplayers.ini Not Found

10:26:59.0 30/06/2012: command.dat Not Found

10:26:59.0 30/06/2012: MAMEinfo.dat Not Found

Whereas your GameEx.ini contains this:

CatverLocation=

nplayerslocation=

HistoryLocation=

InfoLocation=

CommandLocation=

Still and all that's a bit unusual.

I guess what I would try is to go into your GameEx.ini and manually specify the locations of the following files. I believe the default GameEx locations I've listed for these files are correct, but by all means if someone sees an error here, please correct it (I'm away from my GameEx machine). Lastly you'll want to be sure that the following files are correct per the version of MAME you're using.

• catver.ini - [C:\GameEx\DATA\catver.ini]
  
• history.dat - [C:\GameEx\DATA\history.dat]
  
• nplayers.ini - [C:\GameEx\DATA\nplayers.ini]
  
• command.dat - [C:\GameEx\DATA\command.dat]
  
• MAMEinfo.dat - [C:\GameEx\DATA\mameinfo.dat]
  

Naturally after entering this information you'll want to rebuild your game list. Please bear in mind that the above solution is a bit unorthodox, and there may in fact be a better solution available.

There was also this rather unusual situation in which the user was unable to get his MAME categories working until he disabled touchscreen support and rebuilt his list. I've never utilized touchscreen support in GameEx, so cannot verify this solution at all. I did notice that you're using touchscreen support though, so it could definitely be worth a try (although you'll still need to point GameEx at the above files). So it may be worth getting the file location thing ironed out, disable touchscreen support, rebuild your MAME list, and re-enable the touchscreen support. Seems like a long shot, but appears to have helped the previous user.

It's strange, I don't don't know why but the paths were deleted! After restoring them the problem was solved. Thank for your help.
