As the title says, just want to an average cost for a completed cab, (not including pc).

Or maybe even renovation cost of a used cab. Im asking this second question cus someone offered a Street Fighter II C.E arcade cab for free. But it needed abit of work and I don't know where to start, so I need abit of advice.

As a preference I would like to start from scratch but might take the cab off his hands anyway.

While I think may be possible to calculate an average price to build a cabinet, the number may not ultimately mean very much. It's a bit like asking the average price of a car. What kind of car are we talkin? ;)

A lot of the price is going to depend on your hardware choices (even beyond the PC). Would you build your own control panel, or go with something pre-built? What types of controls will you use, and how many sets? Do you plan to use multiple monitors? Anything fancy? (LEDs, track lighting, marquee effects, etc)

A huge hidden cost here would be tools. Do you own or have acess to some woodworking tools?

The BYOAC wiki (and forum) is a fantastic resource for anything and everything related to building / restoring arcade cabnets.

I purchased The book 'Project Arcade' through nook on my iPad. That's where I found all my info. I'd say I'm into it for about 1,000 including the PC. I used a 32" LCD tv too. I love the thing and I cut costs at some points. I still need to install a spinner for example. If you build your own... You can always add if you leave the room. If you refurbish, you are stuck with the box it's in. 32" is way better than a smaller computer monitor, IMO.
