Hi there,

I was wondering if it is possible to create an ingame screenshot similar to the "Create snaps" function which will go through each game in the list?

Thanks in advance.

Hmm . . . I'm not sure I completely understand the question. That is what the Create Snaps function does. Are you wondering whether there's a way of manually taking an in-game snapshot as opposed to say, a semi-automatic title screen snap? If so, the Create Snaps function has an option to take the snap when ESC is pressed (it's the very last option in Create Snaps). This can of course be somewhat troublesome if the ESC key is already doing something else within the emulator, but for the most part it works quite well.

That's my preferred method for taking in-game snaps (or any other snap for that matter), unless the emulator itself has a snapshot option, in which case that may be preferable.

Also don't forget EmuMovies, as a great resource for all things related to gaming artwork.

Thanks for your fast reply..

Yes, this is exactly what I mean.

And yes, I know the last option with the ESC key of the "Create Snaps" options. This is exactly what I want but only for a single game.

At the moment, one game is started and I can press ESC to take a snap. But when I finish the game (or depending on the emulator pressing the ESC key will also quit it) Gameex will start the next game in the list. This is fantastic if you want to take snaps for all games.

So my question was if its possible to take just one snap for a single game (maybe even during an ordinary game session instead of using the Create Snaps option).

Thanks again.

At this point, isn't it preferable to use the internal emulator key for snaps instead, as nullPointer has already suggested?

If it’s possible to use the emulator for single snapshots then that is typically an excellent option, but there are of course several emulators that don’t include this functionality. This factor makes leads me to think that it would be a pretty cool feature request to add a configurable in-game snapshot key to GameEx.

One question might need to be clarified as part of the request though. If a snapshot already exists for the game in question, should the snapshot key overwrite the existing image, or should these images be stored in a separate artwork directory? If the latter option is preferable (it is in my opinion), then an additional artwork directory would also need to be added to GameEx.

Off topic... If you hold dow escape after you take the snap GameEx goes back to the menu using the "Create Snaps" option. Same goes for "Create Videos".

I was thinking the same thing at first, except I don't think you can select what game you'd like to initiate the create snaps process on (as far as I know). If you only have one game that needs an image you're good to go, but if you have 20 games without images and you want an image for the last game in that set, you need to go through the previous 19 before you get to the one you're looking for. (I think most of us would prefer to have all the missing images anyway, but if you really only wanted/needed the one it would take some doing).

Yes, absolutely right...I really prefer using a Gameex snapshot feature instead of the one inside an emulator.

Example: For Dos Games I use a simple script which loads a configuration within D-Fend, the famous Dosbox GUI.

With D-Fend I could also create screenshots while in game but this has one big drawback for me:

The screenshot files does not match with the game in Gameex, so the screenshot won't be displayed automatically and I have to rename it.

So as nullPointer already said this should become a new feature request...and concerning the behaviour how to handle a situation when a screenshot for the game already exists I would suggest to have another Gameex Config option for this as well (Overwrite existing screenshot: Yes/No, if no, create a filename with index as suffix, e.g. _002 like in D-Fend).
