I have noticed a lot of folks are interested in remotely accessing their MAME machine with GameEx running. I had tried that a while back but found some software which I have to say was a lot easier for me. Check out SmartDock's Multiplicity. Basically it works where if you move your mouse to the far left or right of your screen, you suddenly gain control of the computer beside you. It is meant to control multiple computers on the same desk (kind of like a virtual KVM) but I have found that using it to access my machine is so much easier and faster than anything else... granted you need to have your machine visually available to your other PC (Mine is next to my PC Desk).

You can find it here:

P.S. I don't usually plug software and I am not affiliated with it or anything... just liked it enough to buy it.

I find XP's "Remote Desktop" to be more than adiquate for my needs. Have you tried it? It works almost flawlessly, and in most circumstances it's like your accessing the machine like it's in front of you. GameEx has crashed every time I've accessed it from Remote Desktop, but today it didn't. I was able to gain control and even control the menu like I was on the machine. Must be something new Tom has changed, but either way, I believe it's the best way to go. A remote system that works wen I move the mouse left or right of my screen seems a little strange. I just have an icon "Remote Desktop" on each computer that I double click and select the computer I want to access and bang, I can control it over my network. No need for any 3rd party software like VNC. Personally I don't know why people use VNC when Remote Desktop works so well. And Microsoft has been doing thin client suppot via terminal services for years so they know what their doing.

I use Ultra VNC and remote desktop, although GameEx does work fine through remote desktop when windowed. I often develop it via remote desktop in windowed mode. It may also work if your using deadzone in fullscreen.

It crashes on remote desktop for two reasons:

1. If it tries to set a resolution.

2. When it tries to flip surfaces in DirectDraw (full screen mode, without deadzone).

Hope this helps.

Edit: In other words, set Deadzone to say 1 to get it to work, or run it windowed.

UPDATE: Latest version has much better remote desktop support.
