Upgrading GameEx PC to play more CPU intensive games, need recommendations

Hi, I'm getting ready to upgrade the PC I use to run my emulators and I need some advice on what to get. My main concerns are getting something fast enough to run games like Daytona USA, Rave Racer, and the Atomiswave games at full speed through MAME. Any processor or ram recommendations? I'm not looking to spend that much, maybe $400 all together. Any info would be appreciated.

$400 just for the box? You could build a suitable rig for that easily. :)

I run daytona at full on a p3 3.08 ghz single core with a 512 meg gfx card but i use the sega model 2 emulator, why not give that a go on your current system 1st and see how it handles.

I use an ArcadeVGA video card so I can connect to an arcade monitor and it has issues with the Nebula Model 2 emulator. It seems to be a common problem so that is why I had wanted to play the Model 2 games through MAME.

forget about the bulldozer, as much as I hate Intel, in this procesor generation they have the best performance/powerconsumption chips.

I would recommend to you, from low-end to performance

Pentium G620 (70dls) + H61 mobo

i3 2100 (125dls) + H67(B3) mobo

i5 2310 (185dls) + H67(B3) mobo

i5 2500K (230dls) + Z68 mobo
