Installed the new MESS 144 and updated all the needed files. Now none of my systems using MESS work inside of GameEX. They do work outside of MESS. I've played with the comanndlines and the only one within GameEx I can get working is the 2600. To run it I'm using a stipped down commandline with no options. mess.exe a2600 -cart "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

The same commandline doesn't work with the others. Anyone else experiencing this and has any one figured out what the new commandlines should be.

There were some commands that are no longer needed with recent updates but it would be very helpful to see the command-lines you currently have. Please post them so we can troubleshoot.

I'm using the command lines that are generated by the setup wizard

Atari 5200

mess.exe a5200 -cart "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" -joy -now -nonewui

As in my origional question I used the one generated for the Atari 2600

mess.exe a5200 -cart "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" -joy -now -nonewui

and it won't work. I change to

mess.exe a2600 -cart "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

And it works

If I change others using the same as 2600 and they don't work

I had a similar problem a few versions ago and removing the -nonewui fixed it for me. I just use the following now.

mess.exe coleco -cart "[ROMPath]\[RomFile]" -joy -now

Tested the above with .144 and worked for me. Didnt' try any others though.

Acually had tried that. Tried it again after your post and still only works on Atari 2600. Got to be something else wrong.

Here is my GameEx ini showing all my configs. Only the Atari 2600 is working. All the other systems showing MESS run MESS but MESS can't find the rom path.

Sorry but I don't understand what showing MESS run MESS but MESS can't find the rom path? I only see issue with one of the command-lines as I haven't dug further. Do you have the MESS roms(bioses) matching your MESS version? Please give more detail.

Maybe run in debug mode so that the console window will show up and give you more details about why it's not working.

Hey FrequEncy,

Thanks for your help.

In my GameEx Ini For each emulator the following line shows which systems are run with mess

Example:

StartPageName=[Console] Atari 2600 (MESS)

Each shows the command line for that system.

The only one that now works is for the Atari 2600.

The rest start MESS and then goes back to GameEX.

I've ran the debug and it says MESS can't find the rom folder. When reading the latest MESS manual. It appears the current method that is being using in my command line won't work with the latest build. Also messui.exe

is no longer in the newest MESS build. If I go back to MESS 141 , all my existing commandline work fine.

I do have the latest bios and they match the roms.

So are your roms(bioses) being pointed to in the MESS.ini file or are they located in the ROMS folder of your MESS install?

Roms folder of the MESS install

Resolved! User's old settings were conflicting. Since messui is no longer included, it's best to install the newer versions fresh instead of on top of older versions unless settings are needed. Just creates conflicts with ui settings.
