Thanks for that, is there anywhere else, they seem to have the market and are a little steep on the prices ???

Unless you find a used one they all originate from there. Andy is the one that figured out how to modify the card and is the only one that sells it new. Any resellers you might find would either be at the same price or ossibly higher since they have to buy them from Ultimarc. It's well worth the price not to have to screw with getting a cheapo card working.

You should be happy, many of us paid the same price for a 64MB Radeon 7000 based AVGA card. Now you get a 128MB Radeon 9200 I think. Well worth it in my opinion. Even the older card is great for mame, unfortunately its not so good for D3D PC games, epsxe, or Project 64, but the newer card should be much better for those.

I was hesitant to, 3 years ago, but I made the plunge and I can tell you there is ABSOLUTELY NO BETTER WAY to connect an arcade monitor to a PC than with the AVGA (and maybe a J-pac also from ultimarc). Support him, buy his stuff, it's good, it's reasonably priced, and it's well supported. We are lucky to have him.

and where is a good place to get an arcade monitor?

I suggest a Betson 27" multisync monitor from betson.com. It runs about $469 plus shipping (which can be a lot depending on how far you are from their regional offices. The other popular (well, most popular) is the Wells Gardner WD9200 and costs about the same. You can get it from betson.com or happ.

I got an entire cabinet with a 19" monitor for $400 from an auction. You can try

Super Auctions

Auction Game Sales

US Amusements

you can GOOGLE coin/arcade/game/pinball/jukebox and auction or do the same on Ebay.

Another great place is your local Yellow pages. Look under Amusement Devices or a location similar to what you are looking for (arcades/poolhalls/etc) and call the number and find out if they are a Distributor (good), Operator (OK), or in the case of a location you can get the Distributor or Operation number off the devices themselves. Some owner operated arcades will also sell off "older games" very cheap if you just ask. What's junk to them, could be your awesome MAME cab.

Most Operators and many Distributors will sell you stuff out of their warehouse, sometimes dirt cheap, because it often costs them an arm and a leg to dispose of it. If you are a DIY (Do It Yourselfer) you can save a bundle going this way. I have less than $1000 into my cabinet, there are tons of forums out there to help you get started.

Local is always better, these things cost a ton to ship.

Good Luck.
