GameEx 12.24

Mame64 .144b but the same thing was happening in mame .143

Mamex per the command line is putting out:

Running: cmd.exe /c C: C:\Emulators\MAME\mame64.exe macrossp -rompath C:\Emulators\MAME\roms -nowindow -joy -skip_gameinfo -mouse -bezel -artwork_directory artworkgameex

Both the -artwork_directory and -skip_gameinfo are giving me an unknown option error and returning me to GameEx.

From a dos prompt I can type the same command line sans the two offending options and it works fine.

It seems to be any vertical game that would use a bezel. You can see from the artworkgameex that I'm not yet trying to do anything fancy.

I found another post that seemed to indicate problem solved via updating the game list but no joy there for me.

Here is the entirety of my log.txt:

What's up????

Shouldn't it pass -artwork instead? Mine does.

Also you can remove -skip_disclaimer from your command line. If I was forced to guess GameEx isn't detecting your MAME build properly. You ran a list update I assume? They changed the artwork command a few revisions ago. Skip disclaimer can be removed under advanced MAME options in the setup wizard.

I pulled the skip game info but how do I make GameEx know that I want it to say artwork instead of artwork_directory since it's not autodetecting my MAME ver properly?

Posted

That's something GameEx does internally which is why I think your MAME build version isn't being detected. Just humor me and put a vanilla MAME exe in there and run it.

Without knowing the algorithm GameEx uses for this, maybe this will change the command line to what vanilla MAME would use and we can hope it sticks. Otherwise Tom may need to jump in here.

that seems to be it. :( If I DL the ver from the "Download emulator" list, ver 141 I believe it says, it works just fine. Let me back up that version and try again with a clean 144 and see what happens

Wow the downloader is behind! Lol!

Yep. .141 that downloads from GameEx works but 144b does not. I can play sans bezel or downgrade.

Any idea what sort of functionality, MAME wise that I lose via this trade off?

Tom, what's the newest version it will currently detect and how soom till another update? :)

What is 144b again? Its probably because of that version of MAME. Tom doesn't usually support vanilla u builds, not sure who puts your version out.

D'oh sorry! I use the MAME source code to compile my own and didn't realize that's how they label the binary release. I'm a rev behind on 0.143 but my command line reads right so try 0.143 until we can figure this out. I'm on the mobile and can't test 0.144 ATM.

It sounds like its an unnoficial build and GameEx is not properly detecting the version. Therefore using the wrong command line for bezels. You can either use a different option or turn off the bezel feature.

Posted

That is exactly the one I'm using. Straight from MAMEdev.org. It's the very latest 64bit version of the mame client. I guess I was unaware that they mark the binary releases with a B and the source with an S.

So I'm just running MAME .144 not .144b (or rather the b is insignifigant).

If anyone using this build could chime in, that'd be great. My cab is an x86 so I won't be much help.

Your alternative is to use the 32-bit 0.144 and you'll have no problems in the mean time. :)

I'm happier just going without the bezel for now. It's not a huge issue. Not to say I wouldn't like to see it resolved but I'm not going to lose any sleep because there are black bars on the side of my games.

Posted

OK. :)

You know if you were using a bezel and you added -noka to your MAME command line, the game fills the whole screen instead of leaving unused parts? Maybe you're a purist and don't like stretching the game out. :)

Posted

Yeah, It's the whole widescreen thing turned on it's side. I'd rather have black bars over distorting the picture. Especially on a wide screen LCD monitor. That would be a LOT of stretching. And honestly my main reason to post was because the games weren't loading at all. Once I determined that disabling the bezel would let them load it was just a matter of waiting for the inevitable update that recognizes .144 64 bit.

Maybe after I get around to the process of telling GameEx to use the correct bezel I'll care more but for now...

No worries. Just throwin it out there. :)
