Is it possible to get a light gun that does not require an LED bar? I know they used to be available. The new guns support LCD and Plasma displays (through the LED bar), and it looks like the old CRT-only guns are out.

I found some old posts about Happ guns and a NanoTech adapter (http://www.nanotechent.com/opti-gun.php); but I don't even see where I can buy one of these adapters.

And my biggest question is, if I do find one of these adapters, will I have problems getting GameEx and my emulators to work with it?

GameEx could use a gun for input if you set the gun up such that it outputs mouse movements and clicks. I wouldn't personally recommend that since it seems like that would be clunky. Guns won't interfere if they are simply connected.

...will I have problems getting GameEx and my emulators to work with it?

Each emulator is different, so a blanket statement about guns is useless. I would say yes, it will cause problems though just because guns are one of the more challenging bits to get working correctly in general. MAME is not too bad, but emulators like Model2 are essentially impossible to get guns working. That emu in particular may work with a single gun, but I have yet to read an account of someone using 2 simultaneously.

That's kind of a bummer. Not able to process multi-mouse I assume?

I use the trackball as a gun currently in MAME and it kind of sucks tbh. OP beware! You probably won't get the results you're looking for without a proper gun.

I also wonder if Glovepie and a Wiimote could work/act as a lightgun through MAME if configured correctly.

I bet it works somehow! That's a good idea! Can't glovepie make it act like a mouse?

Yes you can use a Wiimote for gun games. BUT, be aware that the Wiimote is not all that accurate so you will need to keep the sights on the screen. You won't really be using it as a gun (you can't look down the sight and fire at the point you see), but you can use it as a quick aiming tool (as compared to the joystick or a trackball).

However, this topic is about not using the LED bar and the Wiimote requires that bar to work as a "gun". Without the bar, it won't know where it is. As such, it doesn't really help the OP.

OK, I finally found bits and pieces of information on other boards regarding the LED bar. I have given up on this.

I order a couple of AimTrak guns from Ultimarc. It will be nice if I can control GameEx using the light guns; if it is too clunky, I will be perfectly happy just being able to play some gun games.

Thanks for the feedback.
