I'm quite liking the look of Hyperlist rom sets, I'm only really interested in having a nice clean set with only 1 rom for each game. I've taken various attempts at this myself in the past but now after seeing that EmuMovies is creating their new sets on this naming convention I thought I'll make the switch.

I like the idea of just being able to run CLRMame to build a Hyperlist rom set and then downloading a video set from EmuMovies knowing that when I go into GameEx I'll have a video for each game without having to rename files.

What I'm curious about is, how well will all this fit in with the GameEx game databases that I've grown to love? They only have name columns for GoodName, NoIntro and Tosec. Any chance we could add a new column? I remember when we got Tom to support these 3 naming conventions a few years ago it took a bit of effort.

Thanks

No-intro sets are just as good,if not better then hyperlist.plus with No-intro,you can customize the dat to include\exclude whatever games you choose.TBH,im not sure how HL sets would fit in with GameEX databases.I think I have a few sets of HL around,I will try and post my the results later. ;)

Whilst I would prefer they were exact they are based on No Intro. Therefore they should work fine with the databases. Anyway when loading the databases GameEx does try to do some work on the matching and not just look for exact matchers. Same for artwork matching if you have the default option for matching set. Like I said it should work fine.

They may be based on NoIntro but there are quite a few that are named differently.

I'm not sure if you've changed anything with the your search algorithm in the last year or 2 but when I started using GameEx it would end up picking the wrong snap even when more obvious choice was present. I can't remember an example I think I have a post in the forum somewhere about this but it got to the point that I just disabled the try to find best option.

It seems to me that although GameEx and EmuMovies seem to be working together they are actually heading in slightly different ways. Another example of this is how the EmuMovies download utility automatically creates a separate folder for stills and videos yet GameEx will only accept 1 path meaning you have to combine the 2 folders manually. What makes this even more surprising is that you (Tom) developed this application yet you've in a way made it slightly less compatible with your own software.

Customizing the NoIntro dats sounds like a option, how do I go about doing this? Though that would still mean using that various tools to start renaming the new EmuMovies sets to match the NoIntro names.

I'll maybe just make a start modifying the TOSEC section of the databases to include the HyperList names.
