Hello everyone,

Very happy to find an active forum for GameEx !

I am French, so, thank you to excuse me for my school English !

I have a question about MAME in GameEx :

I used the specific MAME module for my configuration, but I would like to use the standard emulator module to manage multiple instances and versions of MAME. But when I use the standard emulator module, GameEx displays the name of the ROM, but not the full name of the game !

How do I do ?

Thank you for your help

Wait for Mods or more experienced user, but I don't think you can do what you want.

In the "standard emulator module", as you say, GameEx reads the name of the rom and displays it "as is".

You could rename all your roms with extensive and descriptive names, but this way MAME would not recognise them at all, failing to load the roms, because MAME roms must be named that way in order to work.

A solution can be to use a map file, a file that GameEx uses to display the name correctly. These files are located in GameEx\MAP FILES directory.

Basically, it's a text file with .map extension that is structured as follows:

kof.zip|King of Fighters

mslug.zip|Metal Slug

But do you imagine the effort necessary to write such a file with all MAME roms?

I don't know if there is a method to automate the process...

Either use a map file or use the database that GameEx creates for MAME. If you use the database, you can get the info included and displayed automatically. If you are using different versions of MAME (or different emulators for MAME roms), you can actually include these games directly in the main MAME list by using the mameemumap tool.

It should be in the GameEx -> Tools folder if I remember correctly.
