hi

i search .zip or .rar files for all sega & nintendo systems, the titles and ingames shots.

Ok,gameex have "take screenshots" options, but results are not what i want.

i know this website http://www.screenshotarchive.com/ ,but it doesnt containt all the screens.

my idea ,if tomspeirs is ok,is to concentrate the maximum of screenshots for sharing, via rapidshare, for the gameex community.

Who want to help me for this long and hard work?

Just wanted to say (again), anything that contributes to the GameEx project or community is activly encouraged by me, assuming it's not going to cost me personally $1000's (me hosting stuff is fine though) or is illegal.

Bring it on (in general) ;)

Yeah I think thats a great idea. I am big into screenshots.... although they take up soo much time.

I have developed one script that will take screenshots of your DOS games. Its posted on the boards, but no one has yet to talk about it at all. It also references the screenshot in a new gameex.ini entry.

I have also devloped another script to take screenshots of game manuals. I will certainly post those. They are all done.

Maybe I will post my new gameex ini file script that will renumber your emulators and allow you to insert new emulators where you want. Maybe then people will like these sweet scripts I have put some thought into.

To kick start some peoples quest to have some sweet screenshots. Here are all the screenshots of the PDFs game manuals that are floating around out there on the internet. http://www.gamemanuals.net. (I would suggest going through the pages of manuals and using a tool like flashgot where you can essentially leech all the documents)

Now most of these arent named to the GOOD format like most of our gameex systems. And I am not about to go and rename all the PDFs into the good format, unless Tom programs a Game Manuals section for each ROM. But if you got all the manuals from that site, these screenshots will work great in gameex.

Here is a sample game ini for your game manuals.

woops.... i forgot the most important system.... super nes.

Also I uploaded all of my screenshots for the emulator page logos. These have all the emulators and their favorites, manual pages and regular shots (if you dont feel like using photoshop on your images).

I suggest we all just use a webserver like freewebtown.com to upload stuff to. They allow a gig of upload space and a gig of bandwidth for FREE.

I cant wait to see other peoples images and stuff.

Nice set of GBA snaps here. I used the "Romcenter (alphabetically)" datfile (ClrMame dat file didn't seem to work) to rename the ROM's to alphabetic instead of numbered, and then wrote a script to rename the snaps to the same. I can zip up the snaps and upload them if someone gives me somewhere to upload (I don't have time to mess about finding a host). I don't have the full set, I have 2,097 GBA snaps that match the "Romcenter (alphabetically)" dat file.

I also have 2,202 Visual Pinball snaps, that I *think* correspond to the ROM names. Hang on... no unfortunately they don't, I just tried running Generic Artwork Renamer but it only renamed ~90 snaps. bummer. If anyone wants to have a go at renaming them, let me know and I'll make them available. I have no idea where I got them.

It would be nice to see others post up what snaps they have, and share them.

I think I might join in with this. What format do the screenshots need to be to be displayed in GameEx?

Also who is doing which console? should'nt we decide this so we dont end up doing the same thing.

Are we suggesting that each person validate whether they have the complete collection of every screenshot for every US release and then we find places to upload them?

Like I said before, www.freewebtown.com will be perfect with a gig of memory space.

What is the easiest way to validate that we have all the screenshots. Cause someone should first analyze whether screenshotarchive.com has all the US releases.

I will also get my DOS games screenshots archive.... but it might take me months to do. I havent been running my script as much and have been getting lazy lately. Anyone at all get that script running? We could definitely get it done faster if we work together.

I gather that we are trying to create full sets of shots for all of the good sets. What I mean is we should decide which console each of us is going to work on. So we dont duplicate work.

Also are we just doing USA shots I think it would be better making Individual folders for all folders of a good set. i.e. /USA,/Europe,/apan and maybe some of the others like /Hacks.

Basically what I mean is do a complete set of Everything in a Good Set so that if Multiple Rom Folder support is implemented we will already have the shots for them.

For my VP games, I just used a frontend (I think was called VPLauncher) it went through my images and even though they didnt have the same name as the ROMs and then I just call that interface from gameex.

Yeah great idea and great way to rename. Did you say those snaps you used are in the GOOD format? If so maybe you can upload them to somewhere like this http://www.insightz.net/ or http://www.bigupload.com/ or the thousands of other free upload places out there.

I love the fact how these boards just let topics drift into the blue lagoon of pages 2 and beyond, where no one reads them if no one updates them.

We need to have a hierarchy of sections where we can post relevant subjects and issues rather than one pool with all kinds of topics.

Yes, point noted, maybe it's time for that now. What's everyone else think?

Ill post this in a topic called Forum Future?

This has been bugging me for awhile....I would volunteer to do this if you think I can handle it.

I would think it would be broken down at the minimum as:

  1. Gameex
  2. Emulators

  • Zinc
  • daphne
  • etc.

3. Off topic

4. etc.

Although there are quite a few posts daily now, I still personally prefer it to be listed in a single list. I don't think I would check multiple lists regularly, so if it were changed to a broken up forum, would there still be a way to check new posts in a single list?

I'm pretty sure that when you click on "view new posts" it includes all of the Spesoft forums. I saw one not to long ago where someone was trying to figure out Tom's backup software, and I almost replied that he should post in the backup forum, until I realized that he had.

I'm pretty short-sighted though, and it should definately be thought out befor it was done....

I get an email every time someone posts here... But perhaps thats just me.

Still tho I must admit I dont check the pinned topics as often as the main page.

It would A) Clean things up and add structure.. Both good things and B) Requre the user to manually go into diffrent sections to see new posts. Some users based on the context of the thread may or may not go into it.. We have such a diverse user base the people that use this as a media portal primarly may not check mame related issues and vicea versa...

Hi Brian, Mods are setup to get emails. Is that a problem for you?

I wasn't really thinking of us, I thought it would be nice if everything was organized for the new user. But I have this fantasy that if it was, people would try to read more, I don't know why, I haven't read any of this stuff yet! Bottom line is I don't want to spend alot of time on it if you think it would be under utilized.

It's been bugging me for awhile (even before I started giving crappy advice), that alot of the stuff in the forums is outdated. Back in January I considered offering to work on it, but I really feel that I don't have the qualifications, because the stuff that is outdated needs to be deleted to avoid confusion, and I wouldn't know the difference (being confused all the time as I am).

Anyhow, that's my take on it....

I believe its important to keep even out dated stuff.. Its very usefull in understanding things.

However the sticky config thread should be kept updated with recent config as much as possable..

But that would be a full time job in itself. new emu come out once a week and once I have my stuff working I rarely change it.

sheesh we went off topic quickly... Hijacking threads is a passion I guess.
