ESC Key in MUGEN

I forgot I mentioned this issue in the other thread.

I am at work so cant post configs but here is the issue.

- MUGEN uses the ESC key to cycle back through menues.

- As default Game EX uses ESC key to exit emulation.

I know a solution would be to remap the Game EX ESC function but is there another way I can deal with this?

What is it that you're trying to accomplish? Since it seems you're not wanting to map ESC in GameEx, are you wanting to remap it in Mugen?

I just had a thought, am I able to change the game EX exit emulation key for MUGEN alone or is it a global setting?

What button(s) do you want to cycle back instead of ESC? Since this is not possible in MUGEN, then the alternative would be an advanced config or a script. To exit emulator MUGEN uses ESC. To cycle back in the menu it is also ESC. What are you trying to do? Need more input.

I want to use a different keyboard key to go back in mugen, lets say TAB for now, I looked in the MUGEN configs and cannot find a way to remap the ESC so yeah your right.

How would I set the advanced config to use TAB to send ESC to MUGEN but not exiting mugen while leaving the real ESC key to exit emulation?

Using an advanced config or a script will give you the ability to map ESC to TAB for your setup. Here's the thing though. TAB will circle back but will also exit the emulator when on the main screen since it will be sending ESC to the emulator. From what I gather you want TAB to cycle through menus and ESC to exit emulator. Well that would be doing the same thing since TAB will be ESC if remapped. So not sure that's what you're wanting. Maybe a script can be written based on the screen or something. I'm not familiar with how this emulator handles that so would have to do some testing for a suggestion on that.

Ahh I see what you mean, I thought there was a way to map ESC to another key while still being able to use the real ESC, like an ESC1 and ESC2 if that makes sense.

I think I will look into changing that key in MUGEN, I am sure someone else has had this problem before.

You mean map TAB to ESC and still use ESC?

Now that's doable but will still exit the emulator with either of those keys. ESC from anywhere if set to that in GameEx and TAB when on main screen.

I thought that in the data folder in MUGEN that you could mess around with the mugen.cfg file and change buttons that way. Been a while since I've done that so I could be wrong.

Yeah I have looked in there but there is no option for changing the back key, gonna go through the config files with a fine toothbrush, hopefully I will find something.

O.k I found out that there is no possible way to change this setting in mugen. The best thing will be to change the ESC in GameEX,

How do I change the "exit emulation" key in gameEX?

I looked in setup wiz but either I am blind or its not there.
