Hi,

I just compiled MAME .143 and updated my roms to .143 using ClrMamePro - now some roms doesn't work ie. frogger and digdug (they work fine when running mame from the commandline) - screen just blacks out for a little while then returns to GameEx.

The games that doesn't work from GameEx seems to be started with:

Running: cmd.exe /c C: C:\Emulators\MAME\mame.exe frogger -rompath C:\Emulators\MAME\roms -bezel -artwork_directory artworkgameex

Trying this from the command-line made MAME complain about not understanding '-artwork_directory'

while games that work inside GameEx is started with:

Running: cmd.exe /c C: C:\Emulators\MAME\mame.exe elevator -rompath C:\Emulators\MAME\roms

Any idea why the extra switches are set on some games - or how to disable it?

EDIT:

Found a switch to turn off bezels for vertical games - that did the trick.

After looking at the commandline-options for my mame.exe it seems that -artwork_directory should be -artpath and -bezel should (probably) be -use_bezels (it doesn't complain about -bezel but it's not listed when I do a mame -showusage).

Anywhere I can tell GameEx to put that in instead of -bezel -artwork_directory ? (ie. how/where/when is the runitgame.bat created).

What version of GameEx are you using?

What version of GameEx are you using?

11.91 - just updated today (ie. just installed on-top of the old installation), as I figured that it might need an update, too ;)

GameEx should be checking your MAME version and making the artwork path change according to what you have for a MAME dist. Please try and run a rom now and post your GameEx log in its entirety.

Man that looks right to me. You're trying to use GameEx's bezel right? Or are you trying to use the real game bezel?

GameEx's bezel I believe (-artwork_directory artworkgameex)

Just tried the Attract/Screensaver/Show MAME Bezel=Yes - it applies the same options (-bezel -artwork_directory artworkgameex) and hence fails back to GameEx-menu.

Thanks for taking the time to try and troubleshoot my problem, though ;)

Edit:

C:\Emulators\MAME>C:\Emulators\MAME\mame.exe frogger -rompath C:\Emulators\MAME\roms -triplebuffer -filter -multithreading -volume -32 -bezel -artwork_directory artworkgameex
Error: unknown option: -artwork_directory

Just for good sake ;)

I need a fresh pair of eyes here. Or I need to take a look at my own setup and see how it behaves. My GameEx bezel shows up in attract mode like it should though and I use the same MAME version (and its a compiled version as well). I'm pretty sure mine passes -artwork because MAME team recently made that change.

I feel kinda dumb.... ;)

I updated GameEx - and the first thing I should (obviously) have done then was ofcourse to update the game-list it would seem...

That's the point where GameEx detects the mame version and which options to use - now the GameEx bezel is back where it should be.

Thanks for the troubleshooting and sorry for wasting your time :)

Hey man, knowing you're up and running is never a waste of my time! Glad it's behaving as it should! biggrin.gif

No question goes unanswered around here for long, and believe me I ask more than my share of dumb questions! Haha!
