I would not bother with Vista as an operating system. You will find other items you want to install later on may run into difficulties emulators etc Treat yourself to a downgrade of XP rather than7 . I have just built a shuttle pc from scratch and have literally installed just the following with mame and romsets and works fine...... PC SOFTWARE Installed all from CD or a distributable, none over the web.... O/S Windows XP sp2 Free in a packet of cereals ! Other Needed Stuff Direct X_june2010_redist (direct X last version for XP) http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=8109 dotnet35 (Actually .net 3.5sp1 with all the previous versions as well) http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=22 Windowsinstaller-kb893803-v2-x86 http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=25 InstantSheller I have got a link to how I set up a cabinet but not sure we are allowed to post links to other sites.

I tried lots of different things and all versions of mame I tried mame , Mame32 and MameUI did the same. But then ....... MAMEUIFX worked fine and ran altered beast apart from when launched via GAMEEX. This proved it was a configuration issue, rather than a monitor or catalyst issue. After some messing about this is the solution .... http://www.jammaplus.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=35624&title=gameex-j-pac-cant-see-menus-resolved http://www.jammaplus.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=35553&title=mame-cab-radeon-9200-nightmare-resolved-yipee This is what I did to resolve it..... Deleted Mame.ini Then went into DOS and typed "MAME -CREATECONFIG" Then edited any setting in the mame.ini to how it is explained on http://www.ultimarc.com/avgainst.html # # VIDEO OPTIONS # video ddraw numscreens 1 window 0 maximize 1 keepaspect 1 prescale 1 effect none pause_brightness 0.65 waitvsync 0 syncrefresh 0 # # DIRECTDRAW-SPECIFIC OPTIONS # hwstretch 0 # # FULL SCREEN OPTIONS # triplebuffer 0 switchres 1 I ran mame outside of Gameex and ran fine for altered beast and rtype. Robocop the screen presented was really small though ? I started gameex and told it to launch Mame and then just a black screen ? I went into the Gameex and found settings for the Arcade VGA Card and instead of saying Yes I have one, I said NO in case there was a conflict. Gameex ran fine and loaded the games fine, yipee. I then decided to try and fix robocop resolution by running AVRES http://www.ultimarc.com/avgainst.html However after doing that Robocop was still only in a small part of the screen and Rtype would no longer work monitor would not handle the resolution. I will delete the associated files and put it back to how it was, I can live without robocop being full screen !

Ok I'll try and boot in vga mode and copy files to usb stick. To me it looks like the gameex splash screens and menus default to 31K but at at high resolution my 15K monitor cannot display. I can set j-pac to 31 but it only does low level resolutions. My monitor needs 15K I've played a couple of games fine just cant see the actual menus. I have also set display settings to SIMPLE within gameex display settings hoping it would work but no luck yet. As I said I'll see if I can get those files off in the morning. Thanks

Yes its is confusing as there are so many flavours there is a Mameuifx as well that is supposed to be better at stopping juddering. Thanks for pointing me in right direction for asking for help. I need one more bit of help. Unfortunately just moved the pc into my arcade cabinet and having problems. Its hard to read screen in vga mode to get the errors of at the moment. I'll raise one more ticket as may be an easy fix for someone ?

Sorry for third post in as many days. I've tried my best just got stuck now. If anyone wants any help on arcade machines more than willing to share my experience !! MY Setup: I have bought a license now as got this all working on my pc, yipee ! Got a slight teasing issue on getting it working on my arcade monitor. I have a amd 3.0 shuttle pc with a ati9200 card in it. I have now tried to plug this into my arcade machine using a j-pac with my 15K monitor. Catalyst 6.5 worked a treat and gameex forces the resolution I need. I set gameex to use arcade VGA in the advanced settings before I moved it to the j-pac. So on my lcd tv was all working fine. I copied the shortcut to gameex (MAME ONLY) into start programmes startup. So all i have to do is turn the pc on via remote control. MY PROBLEM Then the nightmare comes..... as soon as the pc goes past the windows XP screen. The whole screen distorts lines colours dots everywhere. The screen is absolutely unreadable like its the wrong resolution. I pressed the player 1 a number of times and in the background it must be working its way through the menu system, that I cannot see ! When it hit a mame game it played it fine all controls working. I pressed the tab key and could select another game but on loading just more corruption, even one I know works. I reckon that is cause its using mame rather than gameex to send the settings. I found in the gameex guide that you can alter the display settings for gameex itself. Display Settings Here you can set various display settings of GameEx. Don't switch resolution Don't change the resolution and use the current windows resolution. If set the next two settings will be ignored. X Resolution / Y Resolution The Resolution to display GameEx in. Most resolutions are supported. If a Y resolution of 479 or below GameEx automatically goes into ArcadeMode and displays smaller text and is less graphical. For ArcadeVGA set this to 640 x 288. I managed to boot the xp pc up in vga mode and with the lovely split screen on a 14inch monitor, managed to fight my way into gameex setup wizard. I set "Set resolution below" and set X&Y to what it says above. Rebooted the pc but all still distorted.I then changed X to 640 and y to 480 and still the same resolution issue. I just cant see the menus of gameex. I have it set to arcade VGA theme. Please help !

Hi nearly got it all working and ready to buy license.... I have a shuttle pc with a ati9200 card in it. I plan to move this to my arcade machine using a j-pac with my 15K monitor. I had no luck with soft 15K but catalyst 6.5 worked a treat and gameex forces the resolution I need. While I am testing on my lcd tv in games like andro dunos I could see almost an invisble line scrolling vertically which was an annoyance. Its not on my original cart I currently have in my cabinet. I have managed to get rid of this by turning on Vsynch I still get a very slight juddering issue on the bottom graphics (rocks in this game). In some forums they suggest to getthe old school feel set the mame ini to this. in the mame.ini... (c:\\mame\mame.ini) if this file does not exist- make one! (start>run>(type) "MAME -CREATECONFIG" >now go to mame folder and open the .ini with notepad, edit as follows.. # VIDEO OPTIONS # video ddraw numscreens 1 window 0 maximize 1 keepaspect 1 prescale 1 effect none pause_brightness 0.65 waitvsync 0 syncrefresh 0 # # DIRECTDRAW-SPECIFIC OPTIONS # hwstretch 0 # # FULL SCREEN OPTIONS # triplebuffer 0 switchres 1 Also for the juddering I have used MAMEUI (instead of mame32) still launching via gameex and does make it slightly better, details of why are in this forum... http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=117127.0 In mameui I have also loaded it manually and edited some setting e.g refresh speed and turned vysnch on. Anyway a lot of talking for a simple question. If say I want to set vsynch and refresh speed. Should I edit the mame.ini e.g set vysnch to 1. Load up mameui and set my settings there then exit. Configure Gameex to do these, it seems to support mameui Not sure what is best route as dont want one overiding the other. It might be when I move the thing to the arcade cabinet and take vsynch off it may be ok any way. at moment does not look as smooth as my original cart.

Yes you do wonder if they get a heads up first otherwise those early comments would have seem very bad if they were rubbish ! Interestingly those two met at a singing club, they were partnered together then. The show gives the impression they are friends that chose to sing together.

Hi, I have just been setting up gameex with .145 romset. I am setting this up on a shuttle pc which I will eventually install in my arcade cabinet, alongside my neo geo mobo. Using soft 15K, jamma switcher and a j-pac ! At the moment while I get it all working I have been testing it on my laptop, as its easier !. Ido things like turn off the filter so I see all the mame romsets ! When I buy a license I wondered if the license was ok to be used on two machines ? The arcade machine wont be on the internet. Thanks
