  1. Yeah you could just set up a CVS server on a linux or windows box. You get full control of what's accessible to who. This is the same model that sourceforge uses, although on a much grander scale. /Ant.
  2. Interesting point of view. I look at it this way: Who cares if 20 spin offs are generated if just one person contributes to the improvement the main project? That is still an improvement on the current model. Anyway, if you look at the way open source software develops, there aren't usually many spinoffs - it takes a lot more time to manage an entire spinoff project than it does to make a single contribution to an existing project. A good example of this is MediaPortal (which bares a startling resemblence to GameEx but doesn't have any of the MAME-specific features) - there are a LOT of people contributing to that project and everyone reaps the benefit. Cheers, Ant.
  3. Hi. First of all great work - especially the last few builds. I have two suggestions: 1. As someone else said, allow us to reconfigure the keys that GameEx uses for its functions. I too have a single player cab with a limitted number of buttons and in certain situations, it is simply impossible to navigate backwards with this kind of configuration. 2. Release the source. Cheers, Ant.
  4. Hi, Great to see the addition of the lock down feature but I agree with one of the other posters about the method of unlocking. I would never be able to remember that sequence of actions. Even the most hammer-happy kids can't manage to hit a combination of three keys at once (e.g. ctrl-shift-u), so perhaps that would be a better solution? Certainly easier to remember. Cheers, Ant.
  5. I think you made the right decision, although I wish you would make it open source. Your initial plan to make it shareware started me up on MediaPortal, which looks uncannily like GameEx and includes a lot of the HTPC functions I've seen mentioned on this site. However, it lacks a well-integrated Mame plugin (at the moment). Making GameEx open source would nip any parallel developments that might be in progress on platforms such as MediaPortal in the bud and save their developers wasted time. Just my 2c.
  6. Hi, Nice to see you're addressing the issue of responsiveness whilst using video snaps (although implementing it with a timer would be more efficient than spawning threads...). Anyway, at the moment the delay between selecting an item and the video/snap being show is WAY to high. It's something like 5 seconds at the moment I think. A half a second would be enough to allow users to quickly skip over items whilst experiencing a timely reaction for the items their actually interested in. I suppose the solution that would make everybody happy would be to make the delay configurable. Keep up the good work! /Ant
