Well, after much tinkering in the advanced configuration file, I finally got it fixed for good this time. It's sort of a combination of things, mainly my forgetting to save what changes I made (I think) at the time...at least that's the way it was acting. If for some reason I experience trouble again, I will post the log here - should have done that at first, but it really only seemed to be telling me that I needed the new version of DirectX. What the problem actually seemed to be was I had the advanced config file switch on, and the MapKeys Off (I think - or maybe Map Keys was on as well), and it just didn't like both. I am using ZSNES and up until tonight had not had a problem....which is why I got rather frustrated. Usually I can look at the log and sort of tell where the problem is, but like I said it just didn't seem to be telling me anything useful. Biggest thing is that I know I can get it to stay fixed if I just tinker with the settings a bit....it wasn't anything too major, apparently. Sorry to have bothered you all!
