  1. I have the latest version of Gamex (clean install today). In my MAME options I have it set to not show bracketed text, no clones, no mahjong, no japanese games and such. However, after runing the Update List option a couple times I still have all of those roms showing up. Currently I have 8000ish games in my list which is of course a pain to sort through. Any idea as to why the filters don't seem to be taking effect? *Resolved* Turns out it was an issue with Mame32... not GameEx. I was using version 131.u1. Apparantely there are some issues with this release. I reverted to 131 and all is working fine.
  2. This used to happen in the older versions too. I too am unable to get GameEx to work with the new Model2 version. While it seems like you have a workaround I'd prefer it to work like it used to as opposed to being a separate emulator. Tom, do you think this will be something you could look at?
  3. Here's a good link to info on changes coming up: http://aarongiles.com/?p=170#more-170 And here is some info on the artwork changes: http://aarongiles.com/?p=161#more-161
  4. That'll work. Basically any bezel that you want applied to a specific game, give it the same name as that rom and stick it in the artwork folder. Also, keep in mind that the next release of Mame (107) will has some major changes to the way the artwork stuff works so if you have some older artwork files you may want to stay on .106 for a while.
  5. Hey All, I'm having some trouble that I was hoping someone out there might have a fix for. The first is this: Virtua Squad uses "Alt + F4" to quit the game. With this combination of keys I can't seem to figure out how to make the game go back to GameEx when I quit it. I know that the "map keys" will handle returning to GameEx when Esc is pressed but this doesn't seem to do anything for Alt + F4. Anyone out there have a suggestion? It's not really a big deal but I like to hide the Windows OS as much as possible on my cabinet. My second issue is this: With one of the recent releases of GameEx I suddenly started having trouble with the PC game House of the Dead 3. I have this game set up as an external application. Basically the game does not launch directly from an executable but rather launches from a separate launcher program. So, in my gameex config I have gameex pointed to the launcher.exe file and from there I can launch the game. The problem is that while gameex will load up the launcher.exe program; as soon as I hit the button to start the game, House of the Dead 3 will launch and then minimize and I'm taken back to GameEx. If I close GameEx, House of the Dead will be running minimized. This use to work just fine until on of the recent GameEx releases (not sure which one goofed it) Does anyone else have this game set up on their cab in GameEx and if so what did you do to make it work? Thanks! Here's the config info from my Gamex.ini file: Enabled_1=True name_1=House of the Dead III path_1=D:\Program Files\SEGA\THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD3_EU cmd_1=hod3launch.exe snap_1=hotd3 showdesktop_1=True mapkeys_1=True WaitBeforeKeys_1= SendKeys_1= Enabled_2=True Name_2=Virtua Squad SE Path_2=C:\Program Files\Virtua Squad CMD_2=Vcop.exe Snap_2= ShowDesktop_2=True MapKeys_2=False WaitBeforeKeys_2= SendKeys_2=
  6. Check out: http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/clrmameguide.htm It may be for a few versions ago but I think the concepts are pretty much the same. I am definately not the expert in this subject though so if that link doesn't help you I'd suggest getting help from someone else. If left to my own devices I'd probably blow up your computer by accident. By the way... any luck with zinc yet?
  7. Alright... I'll do the best I can here. Attached to this post is my Zinc folder zipped up complete with plugins and a config file (no roms). Unzip it and put it somewhere on you computer. Also attached is a zip folder called pr1data. Inside that folder is a file called pr1data.8k. Put the pr1data.8k file in the root of your C: drive. If you put it anywhere else it wont work. (C:\pr1data.8k) Now look in your c:\program files\gameex\config folder for a file called gamex.ini Use notepad to open the file and look for the following section: # The following settings are used if you wish to use the Zinc Emulator # (http://www.emuhype.com/) # for launching games based on the 3D SONY Playstation # hardware instead of MAME. # The Zinc Emulator runs these games much better than MAME, and most # will run full speed with full sound on modern hardware. # Zinc use should appear seemless in GameEx # and the games will appear as normal in the lists. The game has to be at # least partially supported by MAME, to appear in the list, and the ROMS # must be in the MAME ROM Directory specified above. # Therefore don't specify the --roms-directory option in ZincOptions. # Note: ZincPath should not include the EXE, just the full path to where # Zinc is located. Specify the EXE in ZincEXE. (use the settings below and modify the zincpath to suit your setup) UseZinc=True ZincEXE=ZiNc.exe ZincPath=d:\Zinc ZincOptions=--renderer=.\renderer.znc --use-renderer-cfg-file=.\renderer.cfg --controller=.\controller.znc --use-controller-cfg-file=.\controller.cfg This is exactly how I have zinc setup and it works perfectly for me. Also, keep in mind that if you can't launch a rom in Mame it won't work in zinc either. Here is a list of zinc games. Try to launch the game in mame first. If it pukes there it's going to puke in zinc as well 1 Street Fighter EX (JP) 2 Street Fighter EX (ASIA) 3 Street Fighter EX Plus (USA) 4 Street Fighter EX Plus (JP) 5 Street Fighter EX 2 (JP) 6 Street Fighter EX 2 PLUS (JP) 7 Star Gladiator 2 (JP) 8 Rival Schools (ASIA) 9 Justice Gakuen (JP) 10 Strider Hiryu 2 (JP) 11 Strider 2 (USA) 12 Kikaioh (JP) 13 Battle Arena Toshinden 2 (JP) 14 Tetris The Grand Master (JP) 15 Sonic Wings Limited (JP) 16 Beastorizer (bootleg) 17 Psychic Force (JP) 18 Magical Date EX (JP) 19 Soul Edge (JP) Ver. 8. Oops... mis post... check other thread for my reply.
  9. Okay... In case this jogs anyone's memory.... here is a screenshot of where GameEx locks up loading up games. It's really weird. As I said before the game will load up fine in psx but for some reason it bombs out here. I'll keep digging but if any other psx users out there have seen this screen I'd love to hear what you did to get it working.
  10. Thanks, I'll try adding the -r switch to my config and see if that helps. What does the -r switch do anyway?
  11. "An example of this is Resident Evil (Director's Cut). If I lauch this CD image directly from the psx emulator it loads up just fine. If I use GameEx to launch the game it locks up every time." This game is listed as working in the pSX compatability list and like I said it does launch fine when launching it straight from the psxfin executable. However, launching it from GameEx causes it to lock up. I know that my GameEx settings are okay since it will launch other games for this emulator just fine. I'm curious if there are some switches/options that need to be added to the command line that gameex calls when launching this game. Anyway, I've got another post going in the psx forums as well so I'll see if that drums up any info. I doubt this problem is related to anything in GameEx. I was mostly just fishing to see if any one else out there uses GameEx as the frontend for the psx emulator and if they encountered any similar problems. Adultery, you seem to know a little about psx. Do you use it inside GameEx and if so do you ever have problems launching games? *Edit* Here is a link to the other thread if that helps http://psxemulator.proboards54.com/index.c...read=1152713095
  12. Check out a program called Clearmamepro http://www.clrmame.com/ The interface is clunky and the documentation is IMO terrible but once you figure out how it works it will do exactly what you are asking. It will scan your roms and it has the option to move (or rebuild) the good ones to one folder and leave the junk behind. *Also, very important* The first time you use Clearmamepro I would definately recommend backing up your existing roms folder before you start. There are options in Clearmamepro that delete bad roms and bad dumps. You can really screw things up based on what options you select and what .dat files you use.
  13. The nice thing about the way GameEx handles Zinc and Model2 games is that (aside from the weird mouse movement on Model2) they launch seemlessly. You don't have to know which one is which. All roms for both Zinc and Model2 go into the same directory that you have set up for your MAME roms. Also, I can't really think of a reason why you wouldn't want Zinc to handle all of the roms that it is capable of playing as in every case I can think of it runs them better than mame.
  14. Hey Marker, I noticed your Zinc config options... looks like you may have gotten them from one of my posts... anyway, keep in mind that there is a additional component to Zinc for the controller (Winterblast's plugin I believe) It is yet another download that IIRC is not included with some releases of Zinc. Try not to get too frustrated. Zinc is a PITA to get set up but once it is running properly you'll love it. Games that have unplayable framerates in MAME32 seem to run silky smooth in Zinc; so the trouble is definately worth it. I personaly use the D3D renderer as for some reason I could never get the ogl one up and running. Also, I have Samurai Showdown 1 through 5 working perfectly in MAME32. I also have Marvel vs Capcom and Marvel vs Street Fighter working in MAME32 so if you are having trouble with those games you may just need to update the roms.
  15. I'm using the psx emulator version 1.6 to run playstation games. While I only have a collection of 5 or 6 games I'm having trouble with some of them. The games show up in GameEx however when I go to launch some of them they lock up. An example of this is Resident Evil (Director's Cut). If I lauch this CD image directly from the psx emulator it loads up just fine. If I use GameEx to launch the game it locks up every time. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Street Fighter Alpha 3 load and run just fine though. Is anyone else out there using this emulator and if so are you having similar issues? I've played around with different settings in GameEx (wait times, send keys, show desktop, etc.) but nothing seems to work. Or maybe there are some options that I should be adding to the psxfin.exe path? (Please note that I am not referring to epsx which I know is a different emulator) Oops... double post... sorry bout that.
