  1. Hi Tom, Just wanted to circle back on this. In the interest of finally getting my cabinet back running after several months, I've set things up with a different front-end. Obviously, whatever is causing the crash is unique to my system and I appreciate your help in trying to resolve the problem. I'm just tired of troubleshooting and need something working, even if it's not ideal. I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of GameEx over the past 13+ years and appreciate everything you do for the community; it just seems time to move on, at least for now. All the best, and thanks again. Endaar
  2. I wanted to see whether the crash would still happen without using video snaps, and it did. I know the below info isn't especially helpful but here it is anyway: Faulting application name: GameEx.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x66df0000 Faulting module name: coreclr.dll, version: 6.0.3624.51421, time stamp: 0x670ddee9 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x00000000001d4089 Faulting process id: 0x0x1888 Faulting application start time: 0x0x1DB557BE9B1C089 Faulting application path: D:\2024Rebuild\GameEx\GameEx.exe Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\dotnet\shared\Microsoft.NETCore.App\6.0.36\coreclr.dll Report Id: 3f266fea-ee7a-4799-824b-c5fb793473b4 Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: Let me know if there's any data I can help collect. I'm not a developer but I'm in tech (sysadmin/cybersec) so I'm not a layperson. Thanks again.
  3. Hi Tom, Same issue on 18.92. Latest logs are attached but I don't think they show much, unfortunately. I was running an old version of GameEx (13.x?) on a Vista machine for many years. That system had a hardware failure and I rebuilt on new hardware running Win 11. Initially, I tried to migrate over my old GameEx config and upgrade it; I had that mostly working but was running into enough strange issues that I decided it would be cleaner to just start fresh - which is what I did. I am pretty certain that was using 18.7x, but I don't know exactly what build. The thing is, I pretty quickly ran into a CPWizard problem that you fixed, so I upgraded to 18.85 shortly after. I didn't use an older version long enough to definitively say if it was some sort of regression. I have some time now and am going to try some more troubleshooting. I'll circle back with any new info I find. Thanks! log.txt GameEx.ini
  4. This is still occurring in 18.87. If it's something you can't fix or don't want to troubleshoot, please just let me know so I can move to another FE. I'd rather stay with GameEx but the crash is unfortunately too frequent to be viable. Thanks.
  5. I am. Are there any specific settings I should configure? I have version .79.2, which seems to be newer than the link you provided. Is that an issue? Thanks!
  6. Sorry, I totally missed your reply and should have responded earlier. Just for some additional clarification, while the crash happens while scrolling through the game list, it's not a situation where it crashes immediately on loading the list. Sometimes GameEx will crash after scrolling through only a few games, other times it might not crash for 10 minutes of scrolling. My guess is it has to do with loading the preview videos, but that's only a guess based on what I can and can't see happening. If there's any other info I can provide to help, just let me know. I appreciate your help.
  7. Hi - Not trying to be a pest, just wondering if there is anything else I can provide or do to help get this looked at. Thanks so much.
  8. Thanks Draco. The dump file can be opened in WinDbg, which is freely available from Microsoft, but unfortunately the data doesn't mean anything to me. Win 11 Education is feature identical to Win 11 Enterprise - it's just a different SKU offered to schools. Thanks again.
  9. Hi Draco, I've attached the log and config files separately, as well as the WER log and the relevant entries from the application log. As for the virus, I am confident the system is clean. It was freshly installed a few weeks ago, fully patched Win 11, Defender is up to date, and it's behind a Ubiquiti firewall doing traffic inspection. I had Defender throw the same virus error on three separate systems when Tom posted an EXE as an attachment in a prior thread of mine. (And to your point, it happens on the ZIP I uploaded here if I try to download it.) The dump file itself had "exe" in the filename, and I wonder if Defender is balking on a download like that. I'm uploading another zip file with just the dump file itself, renamed, to see if that helps. Thanks. log.txt GameEx.ini AppLog.evtx Report.wer GameEx-Dump.zip
  10. Hi, I am experiencing a crash to desktop with GameEx 18.85, where the application crashes without any error message being displayed. This happens while scrolling through the menus; it can happen within a few seconds of starting the app, or it can take several minutes before occurring. I do not see any pattern to when the crash occurs. I have attached the GameEx log and ini file, the relevant application log entries post-crash, the Windows error report, and a crash dump. I am not sure what other information I can provide, but am happy to do whatever I can to assist in troubleshooting this. Thank you! Endaar Crash-11-28-24.zip
  11. Gotcha. I've uploaded the relevant log entries, along with the Windows error reporting data and anything else I could find. Note that the dmp file referenced in the event viewer entry is not present on the file system - no idea why that is. Let me know what else I can do to help. Thank you! Crash.zip
  12. Thanks Tom but no luck. Behavior doesn't change with the new HideOS. Honestly, it's not that big of a deal to me. Is it possible to just turn off "View Controls" entirely while not disabling CPWizard when a game is launched? Unrelated to this, I am having an intermittent crash to desktop with no errors. The GameEx log doesn't seem to show anything, so I am not sure what info I can provide for you to review. Thanks again.
  13. Thanks so much for addressing this, Tom. Things are now working properly when you play a game, and the CP is displayed as expected. Unfortunately, "show controls" is still acting up; when you select show controls, I quickly see the desktop, CPWizard displayed for < 1 second, and then end up back in GameEx. I think CPWiz is getting focus very briefly but quickly getting terminated. I've attached another debug file from CPW. The first instance is launching a game, and the second is viewing controls. Even if you don't/can't fix that, I can't tell you how happy I am to have the play game side of things working. It's greatly appreciated. Endaar AltBeast-CPWizard.log
  14. Just to confirm, I am using 2.67 as downloaded from the earlier link. I've attached cpwizard.log. There are two attempted uses reflected in the log. The first was launching a game. When doing so, the screen goes black for a bit (which corresponds to the CPWiz timeout) and then eventually loads into MAME. The panel is never brought to the foreground. The second attempt was simply viewing the controls from the GameEx menu. The screen will go black, return to GameEx after a few seconds, and then after returning to GameEx, display the panel. Once you dismiss the panel, you end up at the Windows desktop with GameEx minimized. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! CPWizard.log
  15. Hi Tom - Could you please let me know what version of CPWizard you tested against? After a lot of additional troubleshooting, CPWizard 2.67 (latest version AFAIK) displays the focus issue I am experiencing. I have an old version of CPWizard (2.33) which does not exhibit this behavior; unfortunately it will not properly parse the current MAME XML file format. I can't seem to find older versions of CPWizard in order to test anything between 2.33 and 2.67. Just to be clear, without changing any other settings, if I use CPWizard 2.33 within my GameEx config, the panels display properly (just without controls). Changing that to 2.67 (with no other changes to the GameEx config) causes the display focus issue. I have tested literally every display option, combination, etc., in 2.67 and none fix the problem. Thank you
