well default the keywiz is perfect i have never programed one just wire it up and play the op says keys 2 and 4 cause games to exit back to the gameex frontend so i asumed that the i-pac /j-pac by default use # inputs instead of letter inputs as default (why have to program somthing like a keyboard encoder when mame is fully configable) and with a price tag of 45-50$ compared to the keywiz price of 25-35$ it is a no brainer wich encoder is better in my book (pluss randy at gg just kick's butt his repro tron and satan's hollow handles are awsome)

boy im glad that i use a keywiz its cheaper than the i-pac /j-pac and it only uses numbers 1 and 2 all the other inputs are lettter's or command keys (i.e enter ,shift ect)

i have been buying thoes dells (but with the 2.8 p4's) and the ibm thinkcenters with the 2.8's from a local pc recycler for 30$ a pop for my mame builds and they work great slap a extra 512 ram stick and the cheapest graffix card i can find (usually a 5200 or 6200 128 card) and im able to play any game that i can also play on my dual core 3.6 ghz desktop in mame

Please help! problems with Gameex as shell, running Mamewah
discgolfer72 replied to empireguitar's topic in General
just ditch mame wah if you want other emus on your list and use gameex its way to easy to setup compared to the other frontends i just got in a verbal fight over at the klov forums cause this guy swears by hyperspin and says its the most easy front end to use i admit hypper spin is pretty but gameex is a great install and forget it frontend -

take some pics of the monitor i bet its just a decased pc monitor if no camera look for a set of 4 or so pots (usually white plastic nobs) if it has the pots its and arcade monitor if not is a pc monitor -
i had tried bolth arcadevga mode and then just telling gameex to run at 640 x480 bolth way gave me the same results monitor would sync in gameex menu but on launching a game it would just show fuzzy lines (i could adjust the sync post on the monitor and get it steady but still had a double immage like trying to run a std rez monitor on a medium rez game) i just thought it was funny that i could launch the games from windows in mame (with the ini set to 640x480 )and they worked but when game ex would launch them it would not sync oh well i fixed it bu using quickres and forcing windows to always run at 640x480 it was just kinda a pia now i need to find a damn driver for xp that will work with the track ball n the game its a standard happs ball but its connected to a encoder board that outputs to a serial port the solitare game is dos based and runns on a old 386 intel chip so it should be rady o run on a xp computer right (as long as i can find the proper driver that is lol ) anyone here ever messed with one of these before

it seems it had somthing to do with the way game ex launches the games i tried everything in the mame ini and all settings and could get it to work fine launching games in windows thrue mame ui32 (but windows it self would not sync had to launch game then swithc to the arcade monitor) and i could get gameex menu to work fine on the monitor but as soon as i launched a game it would just shoe fuzzy lines i ended up finding a app called quick res that allowed me to set windows res to 640x480 and now everything is working i guess when launching a game thrue game ex it runs mame at what ever res windows is set to even tho i set gmameex to set res to 640x480 and had mame set to launch the games at 640x480 mabey one of the techs involved in gameex can elighten me to another setting in gameex or a way that qucx res could be intergrated into gameex so this ishue can be fixed (im probaly just missin some small setting in the adv config menu )

im working on converting this machine into a mame rig it has a 14 inch vga monitor in it but it is a arcade monitor i have gotten it to run fine in the gameex menu (running in arcadevga mode set at 640x480). but as soon as i launch a game it goes all out of sync, and adjusting the sync will steady the picture but it is a double immage i can plug the pc into a pc monitor launch a game in mame ui32 itself and plug it into the arcade monitor and it plays fine no sync problems (manualy set all game resoultions to 640x480 in mame also ) what is my problem why is it that when i launch games from windows using mame ui32 it syncs fine but in game ex when the game launches it wont sync i though tof using soft15k but that does not help it does not support the onboard intel graffix my pc has is there a setting im mising in the gamex config or what

well it might be i just got done overwriting the new install of gameex on the new cab build using the older build of game ex that was on my pc and now everything is loading fine there is no diffrence in my setup at all as i used stock options other than changing the backgrounds for a theme (and i used that same theme with the new build ) oh well ill start from scratch again with the new build and if it encounters the same problem it must be the new build and ill start a new thread and thanks tom for the great frontend

ok just installed gameex from the dl on the site to install on a custom cab im building for my cousin im using misfit mame (he wants a all pacman cab) well now every time i try and launch a game, screen goes black and then it goes right back to the game launch screen if i launch misfit mame on the new build all the games launch fine it only messes up when using gameex could this be caused by the new update i had the same setup on my pc running the older version of gameex pre this latest update (to make shure i had my theme and everything ready )and it works flawless

discgolfer72 replied to discgolfer72's topic in General
when i cntrl alt gel it juts brings up the task manger i still have no gui for windows its kind of frustrating i can use the machine with no problem but my lil sis and other members of the family are not used to anything but the windows gui so it makes it hard for them to do things like load more music and movies and get to ie to browse the net is there somthing im missing i run instant sheller (i dont check the hide mouse option) then enter gameex config and type explorer.exe on the exit game ex option as soon a s it exits it just goes to the basic explorer with no gui is there another sheller here that will fix my problem i really dont want to mess with adding gameex to to the startup because it just doesent feel like a arcade machine that way edit thanks lamerjack that is the fix this should be stickied i searched the whole site and found no info that would help to exit gameex into windows with gui you must check for this user only and uncheck the hide cursor option i just tried it and it works great now -
well i searched the forums for an hour and have found sevral posts that deal with my problem but none have a fix i installed the instant sheller and added explorer.exe on exit to my game ex config settings but it will only go into explorer it wont run the windows gui im running xppro and need to be able to enter windows on exit to configure files and so the other members of my household can use ie and several other apps on the arcade cab with the gui that they are fimular with im no programer so i wont understand any scripting info anyone has so please help is there another .exe i need to launch to get into windows gui or it it just not possible to exit gameex into the gui i dont want to have any sign of windows unless someone exits gameex thanks in advance for any help you have to offer
