I'm just setting up new install on Win7 and things are going well. I've just set up ePSXe and having a problem. The games work ok if i'm just running the emulator (tried both 1.6 and 1.7) but from GameEx it goes to start up the emulator and just hangs on a black screen(1.6) or black screen with the controller info box top right (1.7). Will still go back to GameEx if i hit Esc key. I've tried all the controller options in ePSXe with GameEx and still get same results. Tried two controllers in all USB ports. Controllers work ok with other emulators i've set up. I thought maybe GameEx was not releasing control of controller totally so added a wait 4000 in wait before keys in GameEx setup for this emulater. Is there anything obvious that i'm missing?? pSX works OK i just set that up to run PS1 games instead. Still strange about ePSXe though. So i've tried everything i can think of and if possible i'd like to stick with this emulator because it's the one i know but if i have to will have to move to another.

Well that was painless. I downloaded and installed over previous install and all ok now. Don't know about auto update though as on current version now and i like getting a version that works then not update unless some big super update comes along, went about 9 months on last install without updating. If i'm happy leave it, never know what niggle can creep in. Saying that though GameEx seems far faster than now. Anyway thanks for the help and i hope Frequency finds the error.

Ah ok must be a problem somewhere my side then and i'll give downloading and installing over the top a go. Thanks for the quick reply. PS Paid version was me asking for the replacement key by email back and forth the other day.

Hi, I've just updated to Win7 so doing a new install of GameEx. I downloaded 10.71 the other week and only really been setting it up last few days and have seen update feature etc that seem helpful. What is the current version that is available for auto update? Now i'm new to both Win7 so have been running starting GameEx up in windowed mode to see if there are any firewall or options for auto update but nothing is showing. I'm using a new firewall for win7 which does not seem to be blocking anything and have tried turning that off and using Windows firewall instead but still nothing. So i'm rather hoping i'm not having a problem and it's just that versions later than 10.71 have not been added as latest version. Any info on this would be a great help as i'm not too keen of downloading a later version and installing over what i've already done incase i lose some of the stuff i've already set up Thanks in advance.

Well i'm no expert but i can at least get you started. It will pick up sub folder content. Depending on what setting you have chosen my guess is that it was busy searching the internet for dvd/film covers and info, which can take a fair while first time, if you have a large collection. This is my guess as to why it "froze" and a DVD cover popped up after 45 minutes. When I first ran the search online for the database for films it was busy for like 4-5 hours I seem to remember reading that it can be a little flacky for big collections when they stored on network drives but i'm not sure of this. Hope this helps in getting your problems sorted. GameEx can take awhile to get it working as you want but it's worth it in the end.

I just use any old bog standard versions really and emulators that i know. If it's running most stuff ok i'm usually a happy pixie. I should try new versions (Model2 etc)really but i come from a small village called Ludd....sooooo..... Thanks for the replys.

Well La-De-Daaaaa So have you tried running stuff in both XP 32 and XP 64? And was there any difference? Am I right in assuming having a better graphics card will help running Dreamcast and PS2 games ie they more GPU limited than CPU? Or does emulation also take a big chunk of CPU resources? Don't think i'm stealing this post as it is relevant to system requirements.

64-bit XP is better than 32-bit for running the later console emulators?? ie PS2 emulator. PC i'm using is AMD Athlonx2 @ about 2.8 with 2 gig of RAM and Nvidia 8600. Games run ok, until i get to the later console emulators PS2, Dreamcast etc then it's hit and miss depending on which game is being emulated.

I've been meaning to ask this. I never have auto updates on because i'm happy with getting a setup going that i know what works and what don't. Always a pain if my media/GameEx PC is always being fiddled with, so now i can test new versions on a different older PC thats pretty much just used for browsing etc. Might try the version with the films info lookup, thats what i wanted in GameEx.

Just the feature i've been waiting for cool

Easy way is to just drag a shortcut into the startup folder. Shelling will give you a nervous facial tick or your head will explode.

Database expert here!! Ok, Ok, maybe not but i did ask about this very same thing only last week. It's like bkenobi says, and that not all the datatbases are complete or even really started. Best way to learn how they work is ask questions and open a few up see whats in them. They are located at "C:\Program Files\GameEx\DATA\EMULATORS" by default.

You can rip DVD to disk and select only the parts you want with DVD Decrypter. You might want to try that as it's a free app.

Ah so the PS1 data base isn't anywhere finished then all the that data base has in those fields is 11 in "GoodNames" and 5 in the "NoIntro". Could i have got an incomplete version of that database with the install?? (I'm on 10.06) I'd thought, obviously wrongly that if the Name field matched one of my file names it would show the info. But at least in the future I know something else to look at now so it's all good in the end. Can't learn without fiddling about with different new stuff.
-
Woo I found a solution, not perfect but hey it works so i'm happy. I copied the PS1's database renamed and filled the "GoodName" fields for the Roms i've got. Still odd that it never worked even with file names matching.
-
Thats the first thing i thought of so i opened the database up in MS Access to see if any names matched. Not all of them do but a fair few do.

Hi all, nearly finished my GameEx install but have one problem. The database for the playstation one isn't working or showing it's information. If i use another consoles data base things work as they should. When i have the emu set for the play station data base i only get "change view, back, home and exit" across the top of the emu page as options. Non of the "by categoey" etc shows up. I've looked in the database and my iso, bin etc match names in the data base so shouldn't be a problem there. Am i missing something obvious? I don't see anything i've not set, as it works if i set it to use the N64 database instead. Now my question thats non database related. Is there a way to set individual pages to start in a prefered view? For example jukebox page starting with thumbs showing and videos page set as a list view. Thanks in advance for any help.

I had the same problem just recently. I had gameex set up nice but ended up giving that PC to one of my nieces. But back to the problem, i've just restarted setting gameex up on a diff PC and had this problem. It's the "-loadbin" i'll get back to you later on what i used but i think it was "-loadimg" or similar, there is a post on here somewhere of all the command line switches, thats where i found my solution.

I had a load of mame roms missing on my first attempt at setting up. Seem to remember i went into advanced config and changed setting to list all roms ie even ones it thought bad for some reason. Then i did the update list thingo and they popped up. I've only had the one attempt at setting Mame up so far as my roms are old sets and i'm doing PS1, N64 etc before i get round to Mame stuff as there seems to be far more stuff to learn with that.

I'm trying!!! Ok i can make one game start ok, but i'm hitting a few problems now but learnt a few things. I set the virtual drive to do nothing when the disc is mounted(was on auto play). In the launch befor i have a batch file @echo off "c:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools Lite\daemon.exe" -mount 0,"E:\PC\Images\Timeshock!.mds" In launch after i have another batch @echo off "c:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools Lite\daemon.exe" -unmount 0 Command line is [rompath\[romfile] and i'm using .lnk to show the game in list through rom filter set to .lnk So here is the problem ....i exit the game and GameEx dosn't reappear it stays hidden together with the taskbar and i have to use task manager to switch to it. So what am i doing wrong??? Any ideas? EDITE: By the way the game uses "Esc" as the key to get to the games options so i have to select that then select exit to windows. Maybe this is why GameEx isn't reappearing.

HI, thanks for the reply. It's a game i've made an image of. It runs without the disc in ok but you don't get the music and it's way more fun with the music. I've only got a few games that will need to run with a disc image so i'm thinking next best option is a batch file. Sorta like if [romfile] = game1.lnk c:\program files\Daemon tools lite\daemon.exe" -mount 0 "[game1path]\[game1imagename] if [romfile] = game2.lnk c:\program files\Daemon tools lite\daemon.exe" -mount 0 "[game2path]\[game2imagename] Then another batch to unmount after. Would this work? Has anyone done it this way??

I think this is going to make me look stupid but....here goes. I've been setting up GameEx on a clean install and have got most things going. I've installed Deamon tools so that i can use images of old windows games and am using the .lnk to start the exe. Now when i use: "c:\program files\Daemon tools lite\daemon.exe" -mount 0 "[rompath]\[romfile]" in Launch before i get an error "unable to mount image.File contains no dat". I know this is because romfile=timeshock.lnk ie it's using the /lnk as the romfile. Now this is why i'm going to look silly i know on a clean install there is a emulater set for lauching PC games using daemon tools but i overwrote that one with an other emulater and when i import it dosn't show the launch before info and i don't want to start again from scratch. So any help on what that actual field needs to be would be very helpful.
