  1. Sorry I've been gone for awhile from the board. I qualified for the Galaga World Championship in Santa Fe, New Mexico later this month! scorewars.com Here is a video of my qualifying run. Rank D, no bonus ships, 5 ships to start....1,149,580!
  2. 109 I cracked the top 10 and made it halfway through the 3rd stage. "Now you're playing with power....turtle power!"
  3. 97 Played some more over the weekend. I got passed Bebop finally with barely any health remaining. Bebop requires stick and move and you need to make sure you have plenty of health when you go against him which means killing the first boss Rocksteady without dying which is very tough. Need to practice some more against Bebop and I might be able to get an even better score. Will see
  4. 86....Cowabunga! Made it to the second boss Bebop. Anyone have any tips to get past this boss?
  5. I’m done being “shell shocked”. I’ll have more time to play over the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. I agree with rtkiii...this game was meant to get your friends together and finish it with four players. It was definitely one of Konami’s most memorable games right next to The Simpsons arcade game and X-men.
  6. I really enjoyed Galaga 88. My preference is the original Galaga though. I think Galaga 88 plays much harder than the original Galaga. Enemy patterns and variety are more tough to follow and if you can’t maintain a triple fighter you’re screwed.
  7. 233,100 Trying to break 300,000 by the end of the month which I think is possible for me.
  8. Yes, he was counting the games in an arcade. Arcades were very competitive with each other.
  9. Something that made the original Galaga great at the arcade is that you could play a game of Galaga much longer than any other game which operators hated. I talked to Walter Day last year at an expo and he said he was once kicked out of an arcade because he was counting games. Owning these games was like owning a car and owners had a ton of money invested in them. Their was a ton of competition back then.
  10. Nice Score! Yes I noticed that you can get a higher score by not warping, but you miss out on the warp bonus. If you get a perfect on the challenge stage and warp you get 20,000 points. I fire more at the moment then shoot all the time. Like the original Galaga, it’s all pattern based. Key is to learn how the enemies come down and position your ship in the right place.
  11. I'm still enjoying Galaga 88, but I really needed a break from it ( I haven't been able to break 200,000 again). And yes I'm playing with the hardest difficulty...my hands hurt like hell today
  12. 807,690 - Stage 70 I took a break from Galaga 88. This is my personal best for Galaga, and hopefully by the end of the year, I can hit a million.
  13. It is possible to get the orbs in 1-1 and 1-2(don't kill the blue enemies, they combine and you get an orb from them) which will then take you 2-3 where you get the orbs from the meteor and that will take you to 3-8. You get 10,000 for the first warp and 20,000 after the second. You need 2 orbs to warp. I made it to the boss at 3-10 and the boss kicked my ass and I had 164,000. Personally, this makes the game harder as you have to deal with tougher enemies sooner than you should. So Galaga 88 is the original "Choose Your Own Adventure" :-)
  14. I was able to warp all the way to dimension 3-8. It is possible to warp multiple times and the game rewards you. For example, I was able to warp at stage 3 and that took to me dimension 2 and then I warped again which gave me a bonus of 20000 and took me to dimension 3. The downside to warping early and often is that the game difficulty goes up faster. I've been able to get 154000 using this method, but I could do better memorizing the patterns.
  15. I feel your pain. I worked in a grocery store in high school. I started as a bagger and later became a cashier. People are crazy with what they use their food stamps for. I really learned what customer service was in those days :-)
