  1. I know there is compatibility with Mala themes, I would just like to see a stronger library. Gameex is still my favorite FE just because it's fast and gets the job done. But I find myself more and more just using the windows mame gui, which really cheapens the arcade experience more. I'm not interested in paying for Maximus. It's more of an eye opener to those looking at investing in this front end. HS may be off subject, but what they have going for them is the art community, which this one is sadly lacking.
  2. I'm curious to as the direction GameEx is taking? Is it "really" wanting to be a microsoft media center extender for people to play gimicky retro games on computers set up to TV's set up for movies? I don't know anyone who uses that clunky MS stuff anyway as there is more appealing software out there like XBMC which has great skinning support. What always drew me to this FE as my favorite was the ease of configuration. But in the last 2 years what it has really lacked by far is theme support. Is even hinting marketing this for mame cabinets realistic? Sure, but who really wants their mame cabinet to look like windows? I'm sure it would fit in with "Powered by Microsoft" and cartoony Bill Gates stickiers plastered onto the sideart. I was never a fan of HS because it was just too bloated and too much stuff on the screen made it slow, but with Badbill's new release around the corner, I hope this steps GameEx's theme support up.
  3. Great thanks. Didn't know those options were embedded. Was trying to tackle it like a WSYWIG editor.
  4. Posted this a month ago in theme editor thread and didn't get anywhere. Is the theme editor locked down to cater just to people who want a media center look for tvs ? I would rather keep my arcade cabinet looking like an arcade system, and don't want time, menus, etc etc to be displayed. But havent been able to get anywhere even with the full screen video mode playing, the delete key will not remove all that stuff in the gui theme editor. Please help! What am I missing. I would rather not have on screen control instructions either. I plan on incorporating that into my printed bezel design on the cabinet itself.
  5. Trying to edit these pre-set themes. Can I just simply delete fields.. as in.. all together? I really do not want a media center. Here's my plan. Have a simple corny simple centered text menu with early 90's arcade text style. And lets say I select mame. Well break to full screen video previews. I dont want time, FE taskbar, game text windows, info... none of that. at all. Just the video playing, with the game logo overlayed, and a blinking gif image below saying .. oh .. "PRESS 1P START". And by moving the joystick (as if there was a menu visibile but not to the user), it would simply change the video and on to the next game logo. I'm really just going for a minimalistic near-authentic arcade look with the video full screen playing, no menus, dumb animations.. nothing. Just something like you walked up to a game and it's blinking at you press start. Possible? Because I cannot delete or disable objects. Just move the fields around. I know you can do full screen by manually changing view with fe loaded, but I can't find out how to edit THAT part of the theme and get rid of all the menus/text.
  6. dungbeetle: I'm not sure if you are still around, but your direction in themes is what I have been looking from people for a long time! I hope you keep at it. I have a few months on my hands and really looking forward to diving into my cabinet again. It always seemed to me I could only find themes that really didnt have the arcade feel to it, like more of a computer media machine or pasted with random game stickers. Hyperspin is kind of in the right direction, but for me all the animations and wheels are too busy. I remember seeing blkdog7's post a few months ago on the KLOV site of his custom menu which is absolutely gorgeous and simple, love it. http://johnsarcade.com/mala/johnsarcade.png Anyway just wanted to pass this along. Been looking at alot of arcade title screens from the early 90's and C=64 loaders to remember how things looked back then. http://nfggames.com/games/fontmaker/lister.php. imo less is more, and I am beating my head against the wall trying for the authentic arcade look and get away from modern commercial xbox look. Hope to see more from you dungbeetle *(edit I guess that was just a game background behind the menu's .. but a parody of a game screen is what I was getting at .. much like the banner's being used on pleasuredome)
  7. I thought this was my savior, great concept. Reviewing the log before pressing comit had some really offbeat matches COPY "Batman (U) [!].avi" ".\FM_Renamed\Adventures of Batman and Robin, The (E).avi" << different game COPY "Might and Magic 2 - Gates to Another World (U) (REV 01) [!].avi" ".\FM_Renamed\Another World (E) [!].avi" COPY "Gods (U) [!].avi" ".\FM_Renamed\Asterix and the Power of The Gods (8) (Eng-Ger-Fre-Spa) [!].avi" COPY "Back to the Future (U) [!].avi" ".\FM_Renamed\Back to the Future Part III (JUE) [R-USA][!].avi" I guess the best bet for me is to stop looking for shortcuts and subscribe to emumovies Look forward to future revisions
  8. I'm sure it's been covered I couldn't find info on this with the search. The other emulators have an option Remove Text in Brackets based on file names, which is all good. In the mame configuration there is nothing similiar to this. How can I just display the game name without extra info? example: Game (Revision-A) Game (Revision- Game (Revision-C) Game (cockpit) Game (cockpit- Game (standup-a) I just want Game to show.
  9. ran across this the other day. The way he allows browsing in a virtual area is revolutionary compared to static menu systems http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NDrwZINijw
  10. Whoot! Found out what the problem was creating the c++ crashes. Embedded in the many shortcut menus in NO$Zoomer is the Exit Program command... Not to be confused with the menu for NO$GBA. It is set to have Alt-X exit out, and is unmappable in the No$Zoomer (it will escape out of the menu if you try to map to ESC). A simple addition in the GameEx Advanced Config to %{X} did the trick

    Windows 7

Right on.. I'll look into it. Right now that computer is just collecting dust after spending the afternoon downloading various forceware packets for vista. I could get the setup to install, but after rebooting the hardware manager had the (?) icon next to the card, drivers disabled, and it was set to standard vga mode.
  12. I have nothing against them and didnt know about issues with it before. I hadnt used daemon tools since around 2002. All i know is after I installed it, my system started to act up. I specifically deselected their optional ad programs. And since they just recently decided to add support to windows 7, there's no telling if any injected software has not been coded for this os as well. The problems remained after uninstalling and I just know that google has alot of hits of people complaining about their systems messing up after installing daemon tools lite. my 7100 build expires next month anyway and will be reformatting my system drive, and will try some of the other apps you guys mentioned.
  13. Since last night, I downloaded and installed the latest version of Daemon Tools from their website so I could get one of my emulators working. Since then, I have been having application stalls, my start button disappears, and well.... my system has been haunted. After a google search, because I was not sure what the cause was. I had only installed NullDC and Saturn emulator... but after that search... well.. apparently for they do include the usual malware/adware stuff like alot of programs. But I specifically unchecked that.... and so did countless others for the past few months have been in outrage of installing Daemon Tools has corrupted the functionality of their computer. http://forum.daemon-tools.cc/f33/ Beware .. even though opting out of sponsored programs when installing, you still geting third party coding which injects malware into your system. Even directly from the official Daemon Tools source. AVG has detected nothing after repeated scans, but it has corrupted something.
  14. Windows focus issue was resolved ... still having problems with crash windows after exiting game. Does not pop up crash window if I do not have FE load the rom, but instead just load NOZoomer.exe via FE, and select game in the emulator. Only other variation I have tried is changing the emu also to NOGBA from NO$GBA, as well as .cfg references. This is another fresh install.. currently emu and zoomer are in separate directories (as they are very messy)... but have had them lumped in together as well. I have tried remapping ESC from cancel and tried %{F4} with mapping, but I think I am trying to over complicate things.

    Windows 7

the only issue with windows7 seems to be with a User Account (UAC) popup everytime you load FE or config, which a fix has been provided for on the forum. Been running win7 64 bit for the last 2 months ... only issue has been support for daemon tools, which the developer on that site finally moved on with and recently provided support. no other issues I have run across, I can even run my windows 3.1 FMV shooters like Mad Dog McCree, Johnny Rock, etc with no issue. You can download the recent 32 and 64 bit versions free off Microsoft's site. VERY fast download, I absorbed 1,200 kb/sec for the 2 gig file. The license key they give you is good until August 2010. Make sure your video card is supported. On another machine that has a GeForce 3 card leaving it with Standard VGA support (veeeeery slow), forceware drivers just aren't supported. Must have a card that supports DirectX9, so that could cause problems with ArcadeVGA.
