I just wanted to report how I resolved an issue with a Griffen PowerMate, windows 10, and Pinball X; which may also apply to any hardware that relies on software for simulated key presses/mouse movements. I've always noticed that my keyboard volume control doesn't work with PinballX. I ended up buying a cheap, used Griffen PowerMate dial to solve the problem by using it as a volume knob along with the added bonus of being able to play Mame dial games (Tempest, Arkanoid, etc).
Long Story short, it didn't work. After much troubleshooting, I found that running the software/driver as an administrator solves the problem and makes everything function perfectly.
I believe this trick will also work for anyone trying to use JoyToKey or other software mappers that emulate keyboard presses from obscure/old controllers. This seems to be a Windows issue where software based mouse/keyboard programs don't work when another program is running as an administrator unless the software doing the emulated presses is also running as an administrator.
