That was it mate! Restarted and working now Great program! Thanks so much!! Btw you have a x-arcade as well if i recall this right... how did you map your neo geo games?

Hey guys, I got CPWizard up and running nicely but there is one thing I don't understand... So Cpwizard displays the controls of my games but when I go into mame and change the button layout of a certain game (tab->input this game) cpwizard will still display the old mapping. I thought CPWizard will look for specific controller files in the /cfg dir and will change the layout accordingly.. I changed Mortal Kombat to the layout suggested by CPWizard moving the low kick button one over to have it set up like in the arcade. i use the x-arcade controller with a Zinc Button layout! I set up CPWizard like this: I renamed the default.cfg from the /cfg dir to xarcademod.cfg and then put it in the ctrlr dir. I have mame.ini in the root dir with the line ctrlr xarcademod After assigning all the buttons in CPWizard and link it to the button .png files CPWIzard worked great! If I assign a new button layout for games will CPWIzard read the cfg dir or do I have to add information to my ctrlr file? If so, could somebody give me an example?

Feature & Enhancement Requests
chriss replied to Tom Speirs's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
congrats from me as well on being a mod now, draco! thanks for moving the topic! I'm not a programmer but I also think it could be doable in a not too complicated manner... Mp3 files already exist in the zipped cdg/mp3 so you would only need a player similar to jukebox to preview! I hope tom thinks it would be a valuable addition -
Feature & Enhancement Requests

I just thought about Karaoke Integration in Gameex and I'm still convinced it's the best solution out there for cabinets! One feature that would be cool is to preview the songs: Just like you have videos to preview games before you play you could pre-listen the tracks before you sing them...Sometimes I don't know the Artist or the Song title but I discover I can sing a long when somebody else picks the song! I think having a 2 or 3 second waiting time before the songs start to preview would be good so that you don't get nerve wrecked when going through the list.. Does this feature make sense? I know Karaoke is definately not top priority in Gameex but it would be a nice feature -
Do you need more power to decode h264's than xvids? I just wonder where the advantage would be...

I once set up C64 with CCS and gamebase64 and it was running alright... I mapped important buttons like run/stop, y,n,f1,f2 and so on to some buttons on the x-arcade. my friends who were browsing through the list got intimidated by the shear amount of games though! Now I just have a very minimal list with the top 100 games from lemon64.com and this is much less confusing

Hey celly, thanks for the feedback! I thought the same thing: Since I have these games running in PSX I don't really need them in Zinc. I think I'll just kick them out of the zinc list since they are not running properly! I use the X-Arcade controller. In order to use the standard zinc button layout I used to run a AHK script which would translate the button pushes of the standard X-Arcade Mode 1 layout to zinc. But since I ran into other problems with the standard x-arcade layout (Model 2 Emulator interprets the pushes of the alt button as a GUI request) I now reprogrammed the X-Arcade to use the Zinc layout!

Could anyone be so kind and see if they have the same 2P problem with Bloody Roar please? I really wonder if this is a general problem and why nobody mentioned it yet...

Hey guys, I set up Zinc again after a long time... I'm working on it for almost a day now and I have the following problem: I use the unmodified controller.znc of Zinc 1.1 Hyper Athlete is one of my favorite games and it has issues when I use Winterblast's controller.znc (either zinc crashes when I use a modified button layout or the start button doesn't work with default zinc button layout) So Hyper Athlete works fine with the original key layout... BUT a lot of other games have issues with 2 Player mode! Could someone please launch their Zinc and confirm the following: When you start Bloody Roar 2, choose 2 Player and start a fight. The button to cover yourself for the second player is mapped to the 5th button of the 1st player! The second problem is that all the 2 player buttons are moved down a row. The first row of keys is unused. I noticed this in some other games as well! When using winterblast's input plugin I could get the first row of the second player to work but the cover button problem is still there... Did anyone manage to get all zinc supported games (incl. Hyper Athlete) to work correctly for 1st and 2nd player?

I guess this doesn't make sense for me either....I just biought a SLG 3000, a hardware scanline generator. The vector beam thing sounds nice though, I have problems getting AAE to run properly!

hey brian, i'm not too sure what this does... could you quickly explain what it's good for? does it add smoother scanline display?

Yeah I would like to know that too! I have it set up in the most simple way: Artist - Title It took me ages to build a satisfying collection but it was worth it... On parties everyone easily picks up how to use it and there is almost every song people are seeking for. The other advantage is you don't need a karaoke songbook since all the songs are right there in front of you! When first entering Gameex it takes like 30 seconds before the list is being diplayed since the whole collection is over 150 GB. When adding new files the index rebuilding takes up to 5 minutes usually... The controls are as follows: up/down on the x-arcade joystick is moving up and down the list (surprise!) and left/right is flipping through pages. Because alpha paging is accelerating over time even moving from letter A to P only takes 30 seconds or so...still I would love to set up the second joystick for jumping from letter to letter (not possible atm though) Its a bit of a pity that I can't select certain labels but on the other hand I think this approach is less confusing for everyone. When first organising the collection I got the full sets of Sunfly, Sound Choice, Legends, DK, Mr Entertainer, Pop Hits Monthly, Monster Hits and Zoom. I then listened to popular songs done by multiple labels like Frank Sinatra - New York (orchestrated) or Depeche Mode - People are People (electronic) and compared which labels sounded the best (best instrument sounds / best synths). I then used KJ File Manager to organize all the labels. From every label I created a clean Artist - Title list. I then copied the songs together in one list ranked by which labels I like most. In the final step I used a fuzzy dupe match program to delete songs that were named slightly different by different labels. My ranking would be: 1. Zoom 2. Sound Choice 3. Mr. Entertainer 4. Sunfly and Legends (sound the same) & Pop Hits Monthly (Pop and Urban) 5. DK Karaoke (sound really good most of the time but imitates the singing voice by an instrument) 6. Monster Hits (by far the most keyboardish sounding, sometimes alright though) I'm happy we can have karaoke parties at my house now! The only downside was that my girlfriend was going nuts during this time since for a period of 3 months I was completely absorbed by this project

its good to see someone besides frequency and me is interested in using gameex for karaoke I must say I still play games on my cab but on parties it just mutates into a karaoke machine! It's been used much more for this purpose lately! Regarding what JamminJ said: To keep it simple and to keep the file size down I would recommend using zip files (packed cdg and mp3). gameex can read karaoke zip files no problem! Some good Karaoke labels you could look for are Sunfly (most popular), Sound Choice, Zoom, DK Karaoke, Mr. Entertainer, Pop Hits Monthly and Legends Series

Hey Tom, here are my 2 cents on an easy and non confusing solution: I use the X-Arcade and people often try out both joysticks to navigate, so I used customcontrols.ini and made both sticks do the up/down movement. For the 1st Player to go PageUp/PageDown you gotta just push left/right. Now it would be really awesome if for the second Player the left/right keys could be bound to moving to a new letter! As I understand it right now, moving to a new letter can only be done by pushing down the alpha paging key and go left/right or is there another way without a key combo? This is what I've found most people get confused with... Even though a lot of my friend rock at SF2 they just can't figure out alpha paging I noticed the increasing speed and it's very nice! But still for huge lists like c64 it takes too long to go to the letter F for example... Update: I must say after a weekend of using the arcade a lot with friends the incresing speed is really useful! I don't need the letter flipping anymore. It takes a while to go from a to s but everybody figured it out. It's a simple and clean approach!

thanks for the quick reply, tom! any chance of having alpha paging in simple mode in future releases? for people who find alpha paging too confusing they could switch it off in the keyboard input settings anyways... but i guess if it's inteded you'll have your reasons
